yea, to make a real difference to DDR4 first the notch now the curve

I'm guessing it's just some form of visual indicator to it being ddr5 as from what I understand it's still possible to use ddr4 with the next Gen Intel boards so moving the notch would cause issues.

I think I read on the wiki for ddr4 that a curve reduces insertion force, because fewer pins make contact with the slot.

I believe it is so the edge is easier to insert into the slot

The pins in the slot are all spring-loaded so they press against the module. This means they have to be pushed aside as the module is inserted, which takes force. By having a curved connector the pins in the middle are pushed aside first and the pins at the edge are pushed aside later, rather than all at once - so the force at any one time is less. That makes it easier to insert the modules.
