Deliding i7 7700K Coollaboratory Pro or IC Diamond

I want to delid my intel i7 7700K. Aqua Computer Dr. Delid is already on its way.

Could some members give me their advice concerning which one of the following thermal pasts is a better choice to use between the IHS and the processor chip.
I have both Coollaboratory Liquid Pro and IC Diamond 24 Carat.

I am liquid cooling the i7 7700k and Vega 64.
I have currently Coollaboratory Pro implemented for CPU heatsink XSPC RayStrom.
I am using IC Diamond on Vega with EK nickel plated block.

So what do you think is better choise to put on delided i7 7700K under IHS.

I read that Coollaboratory Pro could have aging effects because it contains Gallium.

I wouldn't recommend IC Diamond on anything that you care about. There are a lot of long time members here that can back me up on that claim because a while back they were giving out samples here and it didn't do very well, to say the least. It will scuff up whatever surface you put it on pretty good, and possibly even damage hardware. I think one member even lost some hardware because of that stuff... dug into the die or something (don't quote me on that, though). I recommend getting that stuff off your Vega card and keep it around for the next time you need to re-paste an old Core 2 Duo with a crappy heatsink. Use MX-4 or another comparable paste like it instead for most applications. Now, when it comes to delidding, that's where you want to use the coollab paste. I haven't heard much about it causing any damage or anything like that... but it's got the best thermal conductivity, and it's going between the 7700k die and the heatspreader, and probably will never be messed with again once the job is done.

I am new to using Coollaboratory Pro, but I have been using IC Diamond for a few years now.
I used Coollaboratory Pro currently between XSPC RayStrom and 7700K.

I did not see any problems with IC Diamond so far.
I had IC Diamond before on i7 4770K and Radeon 290x in liquid cooled setup.

I used 4770k for over two years before upgrading to 7700k. :oops:

I took appart the old system and sold the 4770K on eBay.
I cleaned it before selling it and I did not see any problems on the surface there. The surface was quite clean.
I was using the same XSPC RayStrom heatsink on 4770K that I put on 7700k now and RayStrom was also fine after having IC Diamond applied to it for over two years.

I'm happy to hear you haven't had problems with it, but others have. I'd advise you to steer clear of that paste in the future. Still, the coolab paste is what you want for delidding. I recommend using it between the CPU die and the heatspreader, but nowhere else. As I recall it shouldn't cause any significant damage to anything, but it can stain surfaces, is electrically conductive, and is a right bastard to clean up.

Bought CLP for my 7600K myself, tho I'm NOT going to delid with razor, so I'm waiting that someone on io-tech forums has a delid tool to loan for me.

If you've got the cojones, you should be able to do it with a vice, a hammer, and a block of wood... at least you used to be able to. I don't know if anything changed that would make that a really bad idea, worse than what it was before... in fact I think I recall something about the substrate being thinner since Skylake being an issue here.

It's always good to have updated information from the community about a product.
I will try to avoid IC Diamond then in the future.

It seems that both IC Diamond and Coollaboratory Pro have disadvantages.

do not put icd on a bare ic chip, ever.

i had it turn to stone and ruin a lap job back during the early days. later batches have been known to dry out over time and then it becomes very poor. that being said when it works, it works well.

gelid is my tim of choice these days (still no ocz freeze but nothing is) but i have heard very good things about thermal grizzly stuff.

i used a double sided razor blade, and covered one side with duct tape delidding my 3770k. I uh, was unusually ballsy that day.

Repeating all the others - IC diamond scratches things, it is a BAD idea on any naked die. It's very unpopular here due to the way their CEO handled himself, but the fact it scratches things even in a small manner is a huge nono for naked dies.

CLU/CLP both work really well for this kind of thing, just make sure you use enough and use something to seal the IHS back on in a semi permanent way - after about a year my temps slowly climbed and i thought it was dust but i had to repaste mine (the IHS slid a tiny amount, so one core was ~10C hotter than the other 3)

I have been away from forums for some time until I received Vega 64 recently and started fine tuning my new computer.

I am planning to seal the IHS after deliding.

i entered a comp they ran on another forum, under instructions of that forum's owner i did a pressure mod on my ifx and was called a lair too for the results i achieved. i was later told that the same forum/site owner kept the water cooling kit they had offered as the prize :|

tho i actually use a nano diamond TIM atm ... the test is not bad at all ... temps are fine, didn't check the block and IHS but will probably do later ...

Cooler Master Mastergel Maker Nano, not too pricy, decent quantity, on par with my previous Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut and Gelid GC-Extreme (slightly under the Kryonaut)

I have to admit that I have been living under the rock when it comes to thermal compounds. :cry:

I did research back in 2014 when I was building my liquided cooling setup for first time.
At that time I found IC Diamond to be good in the reviews.
I had been using that ever since without doing new research.

That's why I put IC diamond on Vega because I was hesitating to use liquid metal.
I was uncertain if there could be some short circuit possibility near the HBM.
I did not have a microscope at home to see if there is some opening where CLP can go in.
I only have microscopes at work.

I am an electrical engineer and know how things can smoke out when a short circuit happens.
I have seen such things time to time in the LAB. :laugh:

Thermal Grizzly is going to be my new thermal compound. :rockout:

I just saw a local shop in my city who has both of them.

I have reserved on their online store both Kryonaut 5,55g and Conductonaut 1g.
On weekend, I will do the deliding and also replace IC Diamond on my Vega with Kryonaut.
