So, I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640, and I want to upgrade the CPU from the Core 2 Duo P7450 to an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300. The bios will not accept it by default, but on this dell forum I found a guy who upgraded to a different quad-core with a 120w power adapter and some BIOS hacking. I'd be willing to do that. The dell thread is here: https://www.dell.com/community/en/c...to-q9100-core-2-quad/647f19b1f4ccf8a8dec98cb3 How would I get a 120w power adapter, how would I edit the bios? EDIT: There is also this modded bios that supposedly "adds new CPU support". That BIOS was verified to work with a Q9100, i flashed it to my machine.
