SO !
I was all happy on my way to buy a Dell U2715H, which is a QHD screen with IPS panel.
On my way to the store, an iPhone notification pops... "CES: NEW HP Z SERIES MONITORS"

This showed a new 27" IPS 4K HP with the same price tag of the Dell (700-650)... Available in the next week or two.

I wouldn't mind if it was 1200 dollars... But 4K, IPS, at the same price or less from a great company ?

My uses are Google Chrome, Adobe Acrobat, some CS:GO when I'm bored, watching some 720p's weekeneds.

Quality of text is most important...

I don't know, maybe i'm just falling to the hype and 4k is bullshit. That's why i'm here :)
What would you buy ?

Don't bother with 4k, with 5k and 8k in the works.

Im going to go 1440p too in the next couple weeks and sit on that for couple years.

Exactly so what I'm asking is, why bother with 1440p, when there are 4k ips screens at the same cost almost ?
I honestly don't know, never looked at a 4K monitor. My PC/HDD/Internet can't even begin to play/download/store any 4k content and I'm not planning to change that in the next couple years (and even then I wouldn't care.. I still enjoy 720p movies and don't mind spending a lifetime watching at that resolution)... But if Chrome/PDF's look much better on 4K then it's a shame to throw 700 bucks on a so-so screen.... Acrobat is ALWAYS on with textbooks...

A big issue is Windoz scaling for screen size can make text horrible.
That has been a huge debate here before. I don't have the link ATM, but it's here at TPU somewhere.
Example, going from a 24" or less screen to say 55" at 1080P, the text is so mismatched, even when using clearType ect...
So in reverse, both a 27" but 1080P to 2160 is the same thing, the text is going to be really small so it may be since you say Text is more of a concern, and that you don't "have a use ATM ,
might be better off to stay away from 4K......................................just my 2 cents :toast:
Other's want to enjoy 4K now for various reasons, even thou it's early in adaptation, while as Mx stated, some want to wait for the "Rez" war to play out more

4K resolutions mean tiny Icons and tiny text. Then you adjust the display settings and make it what you want it to be.
The result is 4K capability in Movies, once they are more available for our consumption. (heavy duty GPU required)
My 28" ACER UHD B286HK was $400.00 recently. I like it a lot.

~~~BUT~~~ That 27" Dell is a great screen and you would love it's quality, I'm sure.
Here is a screenshot of my text display at 4K resolution.
Windows isn't really the issue now. It seems it 3rd party apps that you have installed that are more the problem.
