Do I use Sys Fan PUMP 4 pin or CPU OPT 4 pin for my EK AIO water block? also where the heck do I plugin this VDG cable?

both vardar fans I have hooked up to 4 pin CPU FAN 4 pin with the included extender cable.

Now I just need to figure out does the block itself 4 pin on the PUMP SYS Fan or CPU OPT... currently I have it plugged in to CPU OPT... everything seems fine in BIOS... but... i don't know just want to make sure its ok to leave it that way.

It really doesn't matter. Sometimes the pump/aio headers default to running at 100% all the time but you can always change that behavior. The only real difference between PWM headers is the CPU_FAN header can trigger a warning at boot if the speed is too low or nothing is detected. Some motherboards even trigger an automatic shutdown. On some motherboards there's headers meant for pumps that support higher current draw, but that was intended for older AIOs that actually powered the pump from the header. Modern AIOs just get power from SATA and only have the PWM and tachometer pins wired.

I prefer having my pump connected to the CPU_FAN header because a dead pump causes immediate overheating, dead radiator fans are more of a gradual problem. I think it's more important to get warned about a dead pump.

my EK 280mm AIO is not connected to SATA in any way... hmm, maybe I will change it over to the 4 pin named SYS FAN PUMP after all...

As junglist says, the PUMP header is working with 100% speed.
Motherboard manufacturers tells to plug the pump on this specific header ...

switching it over now. I watched a youtube install video of a ek 280mm video and in video he said plug it into CPU OPT... it was only after I installed it that I remembered there is one titled PUMP...

why I trust youtubers... I never know.

I checked the manual and it only draws 0.65A from the 4 pin fan header. Every header on the motherboard will support at least 1A.

Really doesn't matter what header you use as long as you set the fan curve appropriately.

thanks, I switched over earlier today, so my pump is now plugged into the proper PUMP, and CPU OPT is now my rear case fan.

enough aio/pumps out there that dont use anything but 3/4pin,
same that there are enough boards "below 500$" that support "all features" on all (fan) ports,
incl ability to change rpm, mode (V or PWM), have same max output, and offer alarm/feedback.

completely ignore that some boards have auto modes which incl "0 rpm" for low load,
so the "just plug it in"/here (there )approach is a little ignorant to me..

You're right, many fan ports are configurable.
It's just that you can't mess if you're plug the Pump to the PUMP plug, easy as that.

Given the choice of following the manufacturer's manual or some random YouTuber, you are usually better off following the manual.

Modern motherboards will almost always have instructions to plug the water pump into the PUMP or AIO header. Often this header has a higher current rating than the typical fan header (1 amp capacity). An AIO pump won't draw a ton of power but a bigger standalone pump in a custom loop might be more demanding.

Also, motherboard manufacturers usually set the default of the PUMP/AIO header to 100% 12V power with no fan curve these days. That ensures that an AIO pump is always running regardless of the CPU temperature. You are always free to change this later to PWM or DC control with a custom fan curve.

my mobo didn't come with a manual that showed the fan header layout, it only came with quick install guide, which only showed plugging in an air cooler fan to to CPU FAN LOL. digital only, and I had no PC. I could have used my phone though, but firefox won't open PDF's

any other ideas?

also how do I check if my PUMP is working at 100% or not with software? hwinfo tell me?

edit: nm it does. system 4 is my guess the PUMP one. neat.

It literally took me five seconds to locate your motherboard manual with the DuckDuckGo search engine (I know, one of those things old timers used 10-15 years ago), five seconds to download the English language PDF from the Gigabyte support website and five more seconds to locate the fan header descriptions on pages 20-21 of said PDF.

Anyhow, they are all 2A headers. Gigabyte instructs to install the pump on SYS_FAN4_PUMP (System Fan/Water Cooling Pump Header) or CPU_OPT (Water Cooling CPU Fan Header). It's really up to you which on you prefer. Since the AIO waterblock is closer to the CPU_OPT header, I would probably use that, feed the excess cable behind the motherboard.

As for reading PDFs, my Firefox (17.0.1) has no problems reading PDFs. You are free to use Microsoft Edge or install a PDF reader like SumatraPDF or the old standby Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I have no idea why Firefox won't load PDF's on my phone, I tried downloading adobe and it was a pain in the ass experience with account creation, so I gave up.

Never heard of Sumatra PDF, I will see if its in the Play Store.

Sumatra PDF is a Windows application.

I know nothing about viewing PDFs on Android phones. They display on my iPhone without any supplemental apps.

Anyhow, your motherboard manual exists. Up to you to figure out how to view it. It's 2022, viewing PDFs shouldn't be a challenge or ordeal.

Best of luck.

I assumed your PC was working since your System Specs shows a -20 Curve Optimizer setting for the CPU.

Anyhow, there's little else for me to contribute to this discussion so I will bow out of further participation here.

Good luck with your new PC and your phone!
