I found this in the Eventlog:

A service was installed in the system.

Service Name: GPUZ-v2
Service File Name: C:\TEMP\\GPUZ-v2.sys
Service Type: kernel mode driver
Service Start Type: demand start
Service Account:

WTF?
Why is the software doing things without my consent? For the record, I did NOT run GPU-Z when this event was logged.

Installing an "OnDemand" or "demand start" service literally means it will only run when something calls it. I'm not sure how you could possibly think its nefarious for something that accesses hardware to use an OnDemand service, unless of course you didn't know that in which case: now you do.

I don't understand why is it doing this when it's not running and there were no popups asking whether it can install anything anywhere when I ran the software.
I am not saying I think it's nefarious, I am not happy the software is doing stuff without my consent.
It's not even listed in services, so where is it coming from anyway?

GPU-Z installs its driver when you start it and uninstalls it when you shut it down.

The driver/service is not permanently installed and it does not start without GPU-Z

What did you start when this was installed? maybe some other software that reads specs or sensor info? several companies license GPU-Z tech for their own programs

That's what I thought it did, but I wasn't even at the PC. It was running one of 3D Mark's stress tests for several hours when this event was loggged. I don't think GPU-Z is part of 3D Mark.
