Hi guys and gals...

I would like just a second of your wisdom.. I'm looking for a PSU to power a single GPU (RX 480 or a GTX 1070) and whilst hunting about.. I've found this...

https://www.ebuyer.com/830658-evga-supernova-650w-psu-120-gp-0650-x3

Now correct me if I'm mistaken, but these are the newest Gold rated PSUs from EVGA are they not?? £80 seems like a bargain considering they are meant to be priced about the £100 each for them?? I'm not going crazy am I?? Well anymore crazy than I already am I mean...

Basic questions are - Is there anything else about the price mark anyone could suggest that's as good or better?? Or would I be better to stick with a different unit?? If not and everyone agrees it the unit to buy, I'll grab one, maybe two...
Thanks in advance!! :)

Thanks for the reply but I'm in the UK so I'm guessing it'll probably cost as much to send it as it would have to buy it :(

Thats a great psu. Certainly worth $85 usd, or that equivalent in your currency. It's got a nice 10 year warranty As well.

it's kind of funny that they adopted the + naming scheme ,since Seasonic has the almost identical Focus+ Gold/platinum , etc series. I hadn't heard about these new EVGA models but after a quick glance at the specs it seems like a nice power supply.

A little shopping hint, sometimes the 750 W version of a power supply can be cheaper than the 650 W versions. I've at least encountered it on more than one occasion & figured it was worth mentioning. Also if you can find an EVGA G2 power supply that fits your needs at a lesser price they're also very good, older but still a great psu

We get shafted here on warranty. USA/Canada might offer 10years but UK is only 5years.

not sure if 10 years

The GQ isnt a terrible psu, i assisted another member a few years back who needed a psu, & he picked a GQ, seemed more than decent.

Even though the United Kingdom doesn't have the full warranty, the fact that evga was confident enough to sell it and back it at their cost for a decade is a good sign, but tbh, after 5 years its moot in 9/10 cases. The people who buy higher end power supplies tend to be enthusiasts, which just so happen to be the same people that upgrade their systems more often than not every few years ,or twice a decade ,which the manufacturer knows after the five-year mark they probably won't be hearing anything from the majority of users in regards to a warranty claim ;) A calculated garantee.

I'm not looking at the GQ guys for the simple reason I'd like a modular unit, as all of my other units have been. I tend to like to spend a little more on the unit to get the slightly better quality and think that £80 for a Gold rated unit, from EVGA via Superflower or FSP is a decent enough unit for a basic system?

The one from Ebuyer I found was £20 cheaper than anywhere else.. Is there anything else anyone might be able to suggest around the same specs and being fully modular??

Price is irrelevant when you know that Superflower and FSP make really really good PSUs. Id rather them than a unit made by CWT which you normally see as Corsair units

for your £80, its only speculation that its made by Superflower based on its looks and internals, where as the GQ is definitely made by FSP. the GQ is also rated 80PLUS Gold Certified and the only 'non modular' thing about the GQ is the 24pin cable. the rest is all clicknconnect.

Johnny Guru gave the GQ a score of 9.4/10 -- If THAT is not good enough for you then i dont know what is.... ((Maybe a Corsair AX or Seasonic platinum series???))

I mean, what are you trying to power??? NASA??:laugh:

Good luck on your hunt for your dream PSU.

you do realize that the GQ has only the 24 pin affixed permanently right? the remaining cables ARE modular.
im with freedom, its a good choice.

I own the evga G2 & its a great power supply,, but ive switched over to the Seasonic Focus+ series. I like their high quality, theyre slightly smaller than a standard atx power supply, & the price is great in my country. Plus the 10 year warranty & great cables (which have capacitors in the cables for current smoothing, or ripple suppression) or whatever they call it. Maybe take a look at those if you want full modular and top-of-the-line quality , but they will likely cost you more

I'll agree with the Superflower units, I can't honestly say I've had much experience with FSP but that's not to say that they haven't made the units I've had! lol My original two Corsair AX1200 units are still powering along strong. Very pleased with those but don't get me started on the AX1200i's...

I had a look at the Platinum series stuff and for the extra money, it's really not important.. I'm personally staying away from Corsair AX units... The newer stuff I've had issues with and I'm not so impressed. I see the new 1600w unit is getting decent reviews, but I'd prefer an EVGA or Superflower unit.. That said I'd not say no to the 8 Pack 2000w unit...

From his review of the AX1200 unit, I'm guessing 9.8 is aim ;) :D Jonnyguru AX1200 Review...
Well if it could start the car then I'd be happy lol :D @FreedomEclipse I'll tag you in a post I put up a few days ago :)

I didn't know but thank you for putting out! I'd not looked at the replies until after I'd hit buy lol :( Ooops.. That said, any decent 650w unit for the systems that these will be in, will be more than plenty for what I need to do :) I think the Focus+ series was a little more pricey for the 650w unit on Scan compared to the EVGA 650 G+ from Ebuyer.. Either way, these are both what I'd hope to call top tier units..

I cannot make heads or tails of the warranties. EVGA shows the G2 series, as seen here, has a 7 year warranty. Not 10.

And if you look at that ebuyer link phill included in his opening post, it shows that same model in the UK is warrantied for just 5 years. BUT if you scroll down that page and look under Technical Specifications > Manufacturer Warranty, it clearly says "Service & Support Limited warranty - 10 years"

:banghead:

probably just a mistake, even Scan (one of the uk's biggest pc e-tailers) says 10years in the product description. -- So my initial comment on the warranty could be wrong.

And yet the link to the EVGA page says 7-years. So I would think that is not a typo.

In any case, EVGA SuperNova have been my preferred supplies in recent years. I have the 550W in this system.

I was referring to the G+ the OP was asking about. I dont recall what the G2 has, but iirc its under 10. I should know because I registered mine with EVGA and I own a G2 , but my memory slips a bit more each year.

i mentioned the G2 later in that post, saying if he could find it cheaper, it would be a great buy, as they are top notch PSU's, thats all

The G+ unit I was mentioning guys was the latest model, I believe it's carrying on from the G3? I'm not sure why they went with a different naming setup but hey.. We might see T+ and P+ models coming out but I think it's the latest model..

Ebuyer had the unit for £20 cheaper, so I went with it! But if you look at the pic Scan use, the 650 G+ but they describe it as G1+ for some reason... Think it might be a typo...

They should be here today, so with some luck I should be able to get my 6700k system up and running today/tomorrow, I'll see how things go from there :)

Should I give EVGA a message to clarify the warranty? I mean either way, the AX1200 units I've had for 8 years are still running perfectly fine even after all the abuse I've given then with my TRI GTX 580's and 920 D0 over the years :)
