Simply enough the SSD it's SLC cache is full and now has to write at the speed of the NAND itself. All SSDs have this behavior more or less, depending on how large the built-in cache is.

Dramatic low speed also does happen if there a lot of small files that has to be written suddenly, like pictures and so on. The same behavior like the old HDD had. Games also have very big file, but also many small files then the write speed goes down instantly.

The speed with many small files is usually shocking.

That was not the case. I just upgraded firmware and seems to be fine now. Im on 60gb of 100gb transfer and it can keep up with HDD.
Anyways thanks for your help.

Strange that firmware have this behavior, this should not happen at all. No idea what was going wrong there, but it has surely nothing to do with the firmware.

But the most important is that it's now okay again. Very low writing speed also does happen if the built in SSD is getting too hot. Even a bad or dirty USB connection can show this problem.

I know. My last screen barely copied 10GB of data.... And all files are 1GB+
I have not even rebooted, same ports etc. I just installed Samsung magician and changed the firmware of that T7
It was giving me these issues before I haven't found the time to investigate until now. Some random post on internet said try firmware...
Looks good now...

I never ever have seen this in my 40 years in the shop. by just putting new firmware... But good it's okay!!:) Because Samsung say's it's blazing fast, but you have to first put new firmware? That can't be right. I keep it for now on a bad USB connection. If the controller is seeing too much error's it's going to lower the connection speed. Clean the contact's for once with IPA, sometimes you will be surprised how dirty they are, with a black cotton swap left over.

By he way, you can get the same speed or even faster with an External USB 3.2 case where you can put in any NVMe drive. Also cheaper.
I use one with inside an Samsung 980PRO 2TB.
