External SSD Enclosure

Hello Forum,
Just started to look for a nice SSD enclosure and I see maximum capacity limitations for many devices,
How exactly limit the enclosure the maximum capacity.

If you can suggest me specific SSD enclosure, with USB4 40Gbps speeds - please do post here, especially if you have experience with it.
I see many options around ~130€. Would prefer one for less. Black Friday is upon us!
So far, This one looks the best because the massive heat sink, and says max 16TB capacity support

Check Amazon they have the largest selection. You don't need anything this big or expensive. I have bought ones for as low as $20

You can bet I checked Amazon, but you know their search is ...a$$., even if you use the term "USB4",
It still gives you which supports only 10 and 20 Gbps. Actually mostly gives hits which are actually misses.
Also I'm looking for USB4 ready, wish that I could get an actually good one for $20

I have a cheap 20 € one with 10gbps with a cheap WD PCIE 3.0 nvme.

There is a big price difference between 10gbs / 20gbs / 40gbps

I saw myself the drop in seconds how long it takes to make backups from sata SSD in 5gbps usb bridge vs usb nvme bridge with 10gbps.

What are you talking about? Where other than Amazon has as many choices for NVME enclosures? USB4 is still brand new so you can expect to pay a premium for those enclosures but that does not mean Amazon will not be the place to get it or find one at a discount. I would have recommended Newegg but that site is full of 3rd party vendors that will charge you more for Shipping than the cost of the very product. Please let us not derail TPU with personal attacks with no substance or merit. USB NVME External controllers are no different than those USB C controllers and that actually is a good choice for something like an Ally but on a Desktop MB?

I have a few enclosures too and the truth is with Windows encryption everywhere NVME external can be very flaky. I have a NV2 that is basically dead because USB is getting more complex. For me the only difference is if you have a Steam Deck as modern AM5 boards (The only ones that support USB 4) have so many M2 slots that it kind of makes no sense to spend on an enclosure what you could get for at least 2TB NVME and just add that to the existing M2 array on the MB.

If you don't want the drop the NVME suffers build a RAID 0 SSD array and laugh. I have 28 TB of NAND in my man PC so please tell me I am talking nonsense when I tell you that the WD AN 1500 is the fastest for Games that support Direct Storage. I am drunk so I am digressing though.

That one says it's 121mm long. I'm guess the capacity limit is there because it cannot take the regular, 100mm long SSDs.
Also, check build quality. Many enclosure will look good in pictures, but they're actually crap when you take them out of the box (plastic where you least expect it, mostly).

Fits a 4TB drive np. I know it's slower than what you're looking for (I also wasn't too thrilled about the premium), but maybe Vantec has something for USB4, too.

There are a lot of 8TB options for m.2 2280, so I don't really get how the limitations are coming
For example here is the Lexar 790 which can perfectly fit into that enclosure.
