Hello !

I recently bought this wonder to have fun with an EEPROM programmer.

Sold as a "4 GB GTX 1050Ti", it is obviously a GTS450 with less RAM, but it works.

The curious thing is that it seems to have 2 GB of GDDR5, instead of the classic 1 GB. There are 8 chips of so called Elpida W2032BABG-40-F (4 on each side of the board).

I ran a test with Test Cuda Memory Bandwidth Performance and it crashed after 2 GB (so there are really 2 GB on this board).

I am currently looking for a GF106-250 / 2 GB GDDR5 BIOS for a card with HDMI/VGA/DVI, or at least the location of the memory in a 1024 MB BIOS to try to change it to 2048 MB.
I browsed the forum, but didn't find this configuration of chip/RAM :/

I know I could probably use a 1024 MB BIOS, but, hey, I WANT my 2 GB on this powerfully GPU :D

Open the bios in a Hex Editor, and go to 7db0, At A0 66, change to A0 44, do the same thing on 7dd0, and voyala! 2GB!

This could be a Kepler generation card but I struggle to understand which.
Kepler would be GK on the die. GF signifies Fermi.

Most of them are GF106 GTS450 v2 or GTX550ti. There are some rarer units, which are gt710, and 730gt. I also saw a 1080 that used a mobile gpu (which doesn't make any sense to me, since I believe mobile gpus are more expensive to produce than desktop gpus).

GF116
Had to correct that.

True ! GF106-250 are only for GTS450, see Wikipedia page.

I browsed the VGA BIOS collection for GTS450, I saw 3 criteria :

- Board type : GF106 & GF106B. I assume that the 106B are for the GF116.
- Memory support : most of the BIOS are for Samsung & Hynix. I got Elpida :x
- Ports : I have VGA/HDMI/DVI, but the classic layout is 2 HDMI/DVI

I found a few BIOS than can complete all 3 criteria, in fact 1 Asus board and 1 Palit board :

- https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/104418/asus-gts450-1024-110117 (same with a small overclock)
- https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/104846/palit-gts450-1024-110317 ( /!\ Board type not mentioned)
- https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/108773/palit-gts450-512-110121 ( /!\ Board type not mentioned)

I opened the 110127, but there is no "A0 66" on 7DB0 & 7DD0 :

Open the bios in a Hex Editor, and go to 7db0, At A0 66, change to A0 44, do the same thing on 7dd0, and voyala! 2GB!

Well, "ASAP" meant 1 year later apparently. :x

I tested a bit, the correct value to get 2048 MB displayed by GPU-Z is A0 55, A0 44 set the memory amount to 1024 MB (and tried A0 E9, set to 32 GB :D).

Thank you a lot, how did you know the location of the RAM amount in the BIOS ?

Now, I'll try to change the device ID to get the correct name (and not the "[FAKE] NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti"). I saw you succeeded with a "GT 1030" (GT740) here.

I spoke to some Chinese people who know the guys who make these modifications. Actually, first I was told to use "A0 55", but in my specific case, it didn't work well (the card was recognized with adequate memory, but there was corruption within the game after a certain amount of vram used). It's not a very exact science, because these boards don't follow a pattern, you can find GTS450 with huge PCB and Elpida memories, or the same GTS450 in low profile, with samsung memories. They just build it anyway, and sell it.

Interesting ! Do you have any further informations about those BIOS ?

Do you have the original chinese fake BIOS of your GT1030/GT740 ? I would like to see the difference in your modded BIOS and the original.

Unfortunately I don't have it anymore, but I compared it side by side, and it was VERY similar to https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/209154/209154

The engineering behind these boards is basically a board that actually exists (a non-counterfeit version) from other Chinese manufacturers. Some buy lots of boards that were collected by RMA, make this modification in the bios and sell. Others buy batches of chipsets (some new, some extracted from boards that have a problem) and solder them to their own PCB. They built software to handle these bios easily. In fact, some of them are encoded so there is no editing in the data, but even so, they managed to fix it. These Chinese boards are made with low quality components, and for this reason, they run slower (clock) and tend to be unstable when running at standard clocks.

There is a guy there in China, very rich, the son of a bitch fakes everything imaginable, he is influential in the government, I don't remember his name. In china there is a popular ebay selling site called TaoBao, and these counterfeit plates are sold there (they deceive the people themselves).

I am a technician in my country, so things were a little easier for me, I analyzed the circuit of the board and compared it with other similar boards, then I replaced the capacitors and coils on it with better quality components that I found in others. defective boards.

Gigabyte's bios worked perfectly on mine, even though it's different from the original bios. If you want to test it, the link is this: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/192680/192680

heh, if he keeps doing that, eventually he's going to scam the wrong individual(s) and they're going to find his dismembered corpse in a ditch somewhere; especially if he's scamming a lot of people in his own country. One way or another, the bill always comes due with this kind of activity.

lol You don't get it, it's not a simple criminal manufacturing in some dirty basement. The guy is widely known, and his organization is like the yakuza of japan, it's like he's a powerful drug dealer, only in china, counterfeit products are much more profitable than drugs.

The guy is untouchable, he has ramifications of his business, here in Brazil there are thousands of stores spread all over the country, he has corruption schemes to make his merchandise enter the ports here without inspection. It acts the same way in other third world countries. All this Chinese shit ends up with the country's domestic market, because due to being of low quality and manufactured with slave labor, it has a very low cost, and the consumer ends up preferring the low price (especially in a poor country).

I will give an example. In my country, I really wanted to buy some spray paint cans like you press a red button at the bottom, which allows the paint to be catalyzed inside the can. This type of paint is more expensive, but more resistant to sun and rain. But I just can't find it anywhere around here! I went looking to find out why no store wanted to sell this product, and I discovered that it was much more complex than I imagined.

Let's say a can of paint like that costs $10. 10 dollars in my country, is almost 5x the value of my money (= R$50), add import and shipping fees to that, and you have a product that costs 10x the value of a can of national paint (low quality ). How many people in my country would be willing (or able) to pay 10x the price?

With this, we can conclude why China is becoming a great power, it uses labor bordering on slavery, and is a pioneer in producing things of the lowest quality, aiming at a low resale value, this allows third world countries, have access to these products, and manage to buy them, and as people cannot pay for the highest quality products, the country ends up without good quality products, and everyone is hostage to low quality products.

There have been many figures like him in the past that were thought to be untouchable, only to end up becoming the victims of their own criminal enterprise. Regardless of his ties to government & the law, its a high risk criminal organization to be involved in and even more so when you're at the top.

Because he probably identifies himself politically with China, and he was offended by the facts I presented. Very typical of people on the political left.
