How do I find the correct bios as it has been scratched off the chips.
IMG_1691.JPG
what cards are these does anyone know?Thank you and everyone that replied to my request for your help and comments, I am an OAP and when I was around 30 the Commodore 64 was around so I did not grow up with this sort of tech, Now give me a motorbike and I will fix it for you. I was looking on Ebay for a second hand GPU and this one came up, I did not realise that they were selling a new one or I would have been suspicious , when I received it I complained and they sent me another one and when I complained more strongly I got a full refund. I have since bought a second hand Gigabyte 1060 and it works great for my budget. I am now building a new computer and thought that if I could use one of these fake cards ( repaired ) that it would be useful to someone who need a computer who have a small budget, any other help in actually doing the job would be helpful, I am looking at videos online as well ,BTW I have. bought a bios flashing tool. Thanks again all.

Why would they bother to scratch off the GPU identification? Scratching if off is as much a dead giveaway as just leaving it so why bother?
What gets me is why they keep buying fake gpus, when they know the legit 1s have a specific heatsink applicable to each brand

The thing on the PCB that straight away screams "I'M NOT A 1060" is the SLI bridge connector.

Do your due diligence research before buying cheap cards on impulse from China, people! Educate yourself! This scam has been going strong for years and years because buyers can't recognize very basic discrepancies.

Looks like it's some kind of GTS 450 from 2011.......so, completely worthless today in 2022.

I get it that anything can be used to some extent as a display adapter, but when you're expecting 1280 Pascal cores and you're getting 192 Fermi cores.....at that point it's more useful as a drinks coaster or a Frisbee.

I'd think a videocard wouldn't have the aerodynamic characteristics to make a good frisbee. Encasing it in acrylic might make it a nice (and stylish) coaster though...

Looking at the GPU's SMD mounts, you're able to deduce which GPU type this is. It's an NVIDIA GF116. The unit that is poorly scratched out further reveals what seems to be a -400-A1 (barely readable), which confirms it as a GTX 550 Ti. I can't tell from the pictures the exact chips are used for memory, but they are Hynix and might amount to 1 GB you'll have to look that up.

However, if nvflash doesn't work, you may need to buy a hardware programmer to get the correct BIOS for this GPU chip in them. Be mindful that Fermi has been discontinued four years ago and the last driver that works in them is 391.35, so you need to dig that up from somewhere.

Good luck.

The other folks might be arguing but there's a valid point in there: unless you got a refund on these already, demand one even if you have to return the products. This is a scam and if you paid anywhere near GTX 1060 money on them, you've been robbed blind. It's funny how whoever's behind these counterfeit GPUs thought that just scratching or polishing off the GPU ASIC designation would be enough to stop us from identifying these chips... especially now that their inventory has become utterly obsolete and doesn't work at all with newer drivers.

Why would they bother to scratch off the GPU identification? Scratching if off is as much a dead giveaway as just leaving it so why bother?

Not the first time i've seen this on TPU, last case was someone who bought a counterfeit GT 1030 from Afox (a brand notorious for shifting counterfeit cards to the mainstream market at full prices) which had a GK208B/GT 710 chip installed.

Yeah as long as you buy a legit card lol

Typically either been 450 gts or gtx 550 type, i will get a closer look on ram, there are 12 chips in a clamshell layout

From the 1 in that code for the Ram

Inspite those above being AFR and not BFR, they are 1 Gbit chips, which are 0.125 GByte chips, x 12 is 1.5GBytes.

So its likely a GTX 550 series.

What I want to see is the bios version used on the card from a gpu-z screenshot, that tends to help get the correct bios faster...

yeah thats true
these cards are really scuffed and may not even be fully working
In this instance Id be using a 6400/6500XT or a R7 250 at the least today

Are these cards actually being manufactured new as counterfeits? Or are they just old Fermi cards that are being cleaned up (presumably) and then disguised with new coolers?

Latter, GPU ASIC and memory chips are taken off e-waste cards that wind up back in China and recycled into these with the absolute lowest quality components they have available at the time. The BIOS is then edited to report a different model number and memory capacity than the real one. Some startup brands have actually made a name for themselves on Aliexpress by being honest about what they're selling, unlicensed boards built with recycled components (Veineda comes to mind), but in that case you at least know what you're getting into, and they don't edit the BIOS to pass it off as something that it's not.

There's also the notorious case of Afox, which sells both counterfeits and recycled boards, advertised as legitimate products despite the fact they aren't an authorized partner of either AMD nor NVIDIA. Big kerfuffle about that recently involving Brazil's largest tech channel, TecLab. The important thing to do when you're looking to buy a GPU and you happen to be unsure, is first and foremost check if the product comes from a licensed, authorized board partner:

AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-91
NVIDIA: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/about-nvidia/partners/partner-locator/

Once the brand is identified as legitimate, you'll likely find a detailed product page in their website. If a deal is too good to be true, then it most likely is.

I will try to put it back together and put it back in the computer to take one, it may be a couple of days though. Thanks for your interest with my request.

I have tried today to put the scam card back in my computer and the computer refuses to boot up so I can not take a screen shot of GPUZ . sorry.

Well, you can't even get new drivers for it anymore. And I bet even Minecraft runs on it like a dia show.

Maybe only useful in a HTPC, or as a backup card. :)

Well, you can't even get new drivers for it anymore. And I bet even Minecraft runs on it like a dia show.

Maybe only useful in a HTPC, or as a backup card. :)
Only ok for troubleshooting, same goes for a R7 240/250, RX 450/60,560, 5400/5500, 6400,6500. Uefi becomming more prevailant the older 450s may not work as well...
