Trying to track down firmware for an old Micron C200 SSD. Does anyone know any sites similar to what techpowerup does that would have files for these older drives? This type of thing seems impossible to track down from the manufacturer.

I wonder the same. The thing is, there typically is no reason. Current operating systems know how to communicate just fine with SSDs, even older ones.

Are you having some issue you feel this driver will resolve?

Drive works fine on older sata150/300 chipsets, but has a firmware bug with sata600 I assume related to cache where write speeds bounce between 200mb and 15mb. Works fine in an old computer but has this issue in a newer one.

There is a similar update for the c300 series still on Micron/Crucial website that corrects this, but the support pages for this one are removed.

Bill seems to be confusing "firmware" with "drivers". Not the same thing.

No, I am not confusing firmware with drivers. Since I have yet to develop the talent of reading minds, I go by the information I am provided - which in this case was very lacking. :(

Firmware updates typically are not needed once the device has been updated and working fine UNLESS that hardware's operating environment changes significantly.

You didn't say anything about moving this old SSD from an old computer to a new computer in your first post - the post I was responding to.

Did you contact Micron? The Firmware update list on their website (or at least the page I was able to find) shows only 12 SSDs. Surely they have many many more than that. So I suspect (would hope!) they have a data base for legacy devices too. They likely just don't make it publicly available because then they would have to maintain it, and the firmware.

Try loading:

and see if it finds the drive and shows the update.

EDIT: Windows has a 7 or 9 version, 9 being the newest.

There was no information lacking, I asked a simple question, and bizarrely was told I needed to justify the thing I asked for. Despite specifically asking about firmware, you proceed to tell me why drivers won't fix a problem.
Storage Executive Software | Micron Technology

worked for me with an old Micron SATA SSD drive
Tried that already, it works as a scan tool, but doesn't check updates for drives not on the support list.

Also emailed micron, no response yet but maybe they're slow.
Try loading:

and see if it finds the drive and shows the update.

EDIT: Windows has a 7 or 9 version, 9 being the newest.

They bizarrely gave the same model number to a SSD and a microSD that was made many years later, so that doesn't help when trying to find info on it.

Umm, okay.

Good luck with your problem then.

Reply from Micron - "Thank you for contacting us. As you have mentioned we longer have this firmware on the Micron website and will no longer be able to provide it for this obsolete Micron product. You can try reaching out to your sales rep or distributor directly to request this through them.".

Basically, "We could help , but we don't want to. Buy something newer" (from a different company)

try station-drivers.com

or crucial Storage Executive Software like Shrek said

could try archive.org (not sure on safety), major geeks,

I thought the C300 was one of the first ones?

edit - in the bios you can probably set sata mode to 300 as a workaround?

From the link

"the Crucial C300 SSD made history as the first SATA III interface SSD"

does this suggest the C200 is SATA II?

Yeah, that was a sorry excuse. :( Sounds like they are taking their cues from the printer manufacturers who refuse to provide drivers for the latest operating systems for their legacy printing devices so consumers will buy a new printing device. :(

Correct, the C200 is a SATA II device. Somehow it freaks out when plugged into a SATA III interface, even though it is running in SATA II mode.

Last time I checked, Crucial and Micron didn't have a common edition of Storage Executive. They each had their own, and current version numbers of one and the other also differred. It may be worth trying out both if you haven't already.

V0005 , model from the above list is a MTFDBAC230MAF-1C1
The C300 has a V0007 that resolves this issue, but any trace of that firmware from the manufacturer for this drive has been wiped from their site.
