From the first machine I had, some ancient IBM machine with no HDD and 2 5.25" floppys, to my modern systems. It's all been fine, but I guess it would hit me eventually.

Games PC has been in standby for about a week. Woke it up and after a while it blue screened. Built in mem test showed errors so used memtest86 for more detail, and... Well one of the sticks is screwed. Tried different slots on board and used isopropanol to clean contacts. Eventually tested sticks individually, and it's this little git-

I can't even remember where I got it from. Checked a few sites order history and can't find anything. Searched emails for order. Guess my only hope is try to RMA with Kingston. Just hope they don't ask for proof of purchase as I really can't remember.

Laaaame.

Well, shit happens. No hardware is perfect. I had a stick of memory literally go pop in one of my old computers. Crucial Ballistix LP DDR3 iirc. That is the only time I have ever smelt burnt ram.

The first ram issue, that I can remember having, were two new sets of Geil Black Dragon DDR. Neither set would work properly. Got them replaced with some Geil with silver heatsinks that got the job done.

Have you checked the stick in Thaiphoon Burner for corrupt SPD profile or CRC errors?

No. Just Windows Memory Diagnostic and Memtest86. Not even heard of Thaiphoon burner. Corrupt SPD profile as in a corrupt XMP profile?

Lucky you. I had a bad stick that dogged my PC for years as it was so intermittent. Finally able to zero in on it when it started causing crashes much more frequently. Long since replaced and working fine.

The software is free to check CRC errors. So won't hurt to check that.
