Comparing a 3900x vs 10980XE!!!

This isn't even about HEDT vs MSDT, rather comparing 2 products which are in entirely different price categories... If the guy reviewed the 10980XE vs a 3950X it would be perfectly fine, but the omission of any high core count ryzen parts makes these graphs a pretty clear case of bias by omission.

Spoiler: And even then the 10980XE almost gets matched...

Spoiler: But wait, it gets worse (for Intel)!!!!

Either way, unfortunately the review doesn't consider overclocking or it would look much less favourable for the 3900x. They do mention the 3950X release in the conclusion, and overall they seem to give it a pretty balanced review.

If these results are true. Intels HEDT showing it's age. Only the high core clock saves Intel.

And as I want a cpu good for games as well as good for some workstation load. Ryzen 9 3950X seems like a better option for my needs.

Intel can't come out with 10 nm a day to soon for desktop. Else hey are gonna lose marked share the coming years.

Ryzen 9 3950X seems like a better option for my needs.

Ryzen 3950X won't be a huge upgrade over the 3900X, the 8 core CCDs don't perform as well per core as the 6 core CCDs due to bandwidth fighting on the IF... I'd only expect the 3950X to be 25% faster in most multicore tasks... Value wise I think the 3600 and 3900X are going to stand above the others most of the time.

Hmm.. Double the amount of cores will matter in a lot of tasks. The general move for all computing is parallel (sharing small amounts of CPU power among many cores) vs
1 CPU at say 7GHZ or something crazy. We have reached to limits of the properties of semi conductors. So now we go sideways instead of up.

Software will eventually make use of all these extra cores; but were not there just yet.
Windows 10 v1909 is suppose to have a fix that uses favored cores for certain tasks; and reserves these for intensive stuff. then uses the non-favored cores
for non-critical stuff; at least that's the way I interpreted the post from Microsoft a few weeks ago. They didn't go into greater detail about it.

My point is; Microsoft is tweaking stuff to make use of all of this extra core/thread power...so this will be the trend for the foreseeable future.

And down the road yes, ...1 core= 4 virtual threads...yea, craziness, AMD stated that in the future The Server products "Epyc" will feature 4 way SMT......lol....
so some day (maybe not soon) this will trickle down to the HEDT platform, then the consumer side...

I agree for stuff that needs low latency and is single thread dependent. And, yea the value is better for 3600 & 3900x...
So gaming might suffer a little from the latency's. I have heard some other people talking about this as well. Some guys were talking about
"intercore" latency's and not just between the ZEN 2 CCX's (chiplets)" and the I/O chip like i was envisioning; so this could be bad for some things;
but maybe a microcode update? I'm not sure. But some of these issues could be fixed I would think...

You completely ignore the fact that cores have gotten substantially wider... Take a pentium 4 or core 2 core and compare it to an equally clocked zen 2 core and the zen 2 core will completely run over the older designs. We also have way more advanced branch prediction and OoOE than in the past so pipeline stalls are much more rare, so more of the resources in the core (of which there are more available) are able to be used without delay. I see the future very likely being one of a single"variable geometry" core, where there is a single scheduler has access to all of the execution units which can dispatch tasks to a virtual "core" containing only the resources that task needs.

Software will eventually make use of all these extra cores; but were not there just yet.

There's plenty of software that will happily eat 32+ cores.

One of the main problems right now is the windows scheduler is complete garbage, especially on the consumer side, but even on the server side Linux just stomps on windows server. However the scheduler thing only really affects us when we are doing multiple tasks... Stuff like encoding, rendering, data analysis, etc is already often designed to be done in a tile-based system that can easily be scaled out to a very large number of cores and NUMA domains.

CCX-CCX communication on zen 2 goes through the IO die, this has a latency penalty, but to my knowledge this doesn't affect the vast majority of use cases, especially since the windows 10 sheduler doesn't force processes to hop cores unlike the windows 7 one did (god bless). The plan with zen 3 seems to be to combine the 2 CCXs per die into a single 8 core CCX, this will mean that you will have larger core+cache domains, and cores doing memory/IO intensive tasks can have more IF bandwidth available to them than they do with a pair of 4c CCXs.

Yes, big problems with the windows scheduler. I guess That's why Microsoft is fixing it.

That's is what I stated; latency between the CCX > I/O DIE >CCX = lag, reaffirmed what I said.
I was referring peeps talking about latency in the CCX itself

While AMD redesigned Ryzen 3000 and add moar cache, intel just redesigned a model number. It's clearly seen that cores starving without cache, i seen it allready with P4 having 8K of L1.

Can't wait for a full set of 3950x and 10900x tests and finally upgrade to something.
