This year I started having annoying problems with my SB Recon3D sound card failing to be loaded/recognized in Windows 10. I use this card to drive my headphones and adjust audio characteristics. Tried reseating the card, reinstalling software, tweeking boot settings, etc. The only way I could get the card to work was by booting into Windows 10 and then after it has started up to then do a restart of the OS (PITA but it worked). I then stumbled onto this link: https://www.howto-connect.com/turn-off-onboard-graphics-bios/ ... It describe making changes to the BIOS graphics setting (in advanced menu), in which 1) internal graphics is disabled 2) set the graphics adapter to PCIE, and disable Multi Monitor setting.
The only other thing that I did leading up to the aboce (and may not be needed), was to run the SB control panel in Compatability mode (C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative\Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe\Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe Control Panel\SBRnPCIe.exe) by right clicking the file > properties > set to Windows 7
The card now runs as before and I don't have to get a new card or deal with the onboard subpar audio. This may work for other sound cards as well.
