As an American SOCCER enjoyer, the football manager series has been a staple for me for years. It's also one of the most popular PC franchises worldwide.

Sports Interactive announced today that they are CANCELLING the twice delayed 2025 installment of the series. This was supposed to be the first year on the Unity engine and clearly they bit off more than they could chew. This is despite planning to release a stripped down version of the game, missing things like international management, with plans to add back features we've had for years in a later installment.

SI and this franchise have suffered for years with the "yearly release that could have been a roster update" problem that most sports series have. So it's not entirely surprising that they struggled when an update had actual programming and design work involved.

Fun note - They released this news at 2am in the UK. After months of horrendous communication about development all while happily taking in pre-order money.
