im getting long balls trying to find something that works, im missing 45ish gb when using O&O Diskimage 18 professional edition since it only clones the same size as my current driv c to the new kingston kc 3000 which is 2048gb compared to samsung 970 evo plus 2000gb

having no problems using my current os the way it is, except ist not using all of my space when using O&O Diskimage 18 professional edition

AND im not unless im having a gun to my head installing a fresh os, having to download all i use and make adjustments and remembering accesscodes bakcup, updates and what ever i need to do, i don't wanna do that

Kingston don't have any software for that and samsung is only samsung to samsung

Last time that I tried to clone Windows 11 installation from one SSD to another SSD (with Paragon), I was greeted with the following error:

"The external backing provider is not recognized"

So i'd like to know too which disk cloning software works these days.

Any partition manager can resize the partition in question to fill in the remaining size. AOMEI is a good one, EaseUS is another and Minitool is good too.

Today it's super expensive getting clonning software (unless it's samsung to samung) with full functionallity, even when you can pay for it a month at a time, when you only gonna use it 1-3 times in 3-5 years

first Aomei not free, pay or your can't move your os to a new ssd, diffrent ssd

Same with EaseUS

Minitool i have installed, at first it looked like it was slow, now it's kind of shows some progress, i hope it uses all of the space there are on my slightly bigger new pci e 4.0 x4 ssd

Does AEOMI do cloning?
Yes if you pay for it

I would use CloneZilla to copy and afterwars gPartEd to adapt to the new size. But i don't right now know if Clonezilla can also expand drives. For the programs to download just use google. ;)

Can't you expand the partition after cloning with Diskimage 18 using Windows' own Disk Management Tool?

Not if it's the Boot/OS drive.

Ok, try Gparted. 100% free.

There's also Hiren's BootPE which contain free partition utilities;

Check with the maker of your new SSD. Samsung, for example has their Data Migration software designed just for that purpose.

However,
Fresh OS install is the best solution imo.
I prefer a fresh install too. Yes, you have to start all over installing and configuring your apps and the OS, but that's kinda the point. Plus, you are not copying over all sorts of stuff you no longer need - like old Windows Update and other program update files, and old drivers.

At the very least, BEFORE you use any migration tool, uninstall programs you installed but don't use. Run Windows Disk Cleanup or CCleaner to clean out the clutter. And most importantly, make sure you have a good backup of any data you don't want to lose. Typically the source disk is untouched, but things can go bad.

only samsung to samsung not samsung to kingston

If i could pay 10 euros for using something that works 100% like 10-15-20 times i would do it

Theres is no clonning software you can get lifetime (you own it), for that price, much more expensive or 6-12 euros every month 2023-08-10 15_40_02-(1) Free cloning software that works (ssd) _ TechPowerUp Forums – Google C...png

Finally it worked

CloneZilla has an option to adjust the partition automagically when cloning, I just did it a couple of days ago and it went smooth, even though it's a pretty awful UI/UX in modern terms.

I don't now about if or how it adopts a new size. I would use gPartEd if it doesn't. But i'm not keen in cloning partitions. I always make Backups. When changing a drive i would wait till the last one just finished or start a new one. then changing the drive and restore the last backup. Different path same result. ;)

Dunno about Windows 11, but with Windows 10, I just made a backup using the built-in tool... then booted windows install media on the new machine and restored backup. Easy.

Does require you to have an extra storage device for the backup.

Benchmark Scores (My Windows daily driver is a Beelink Mini S12 Pro. I'm not interested in benchmarking.)
For Windows I've used Macrium Reflect, Acronis True Image (included with one of my m.2 SSDs), Clonezilla, and one other utility whose name escapes me at this time (it wasn't GPartEd though).

On macOS, I know I have used Carbon Copy Cloner (free trial period works fine) and one other utility whose name escapes me again.

On Unix and Linux I always used some sort of native command line utility like dd.

I know that I have uneventfully cloned drives with different sized partitions and different total capacities. As long as the target partition isn't smaller than the data you're trying to copy (duh), it'll be fine.

Whatever their names are, they are all calling out to some low level disk copy commands built into the OS (like dd on Linux). For simple volume cloning, I've used robocopy successfully.

Was about to post this.

It's not as 'friendly' as some options, but I've had the best luck w/ Clonezilla, even @ 'work' in years past.
