FrozenCPU To Close Once Again

FrozenCPU has announced that they will be closing their doors to shift focus to their ModRight brand. FrozenCPU was best known for their expansive selection of enthusiast water cooling gear, accessories, mod gear, and excellent customer service in the mid to late 2000s. They were an early example of a premium online storefront in North America that has had a lasting legacy on a niche market. On the announcement page for the closure they state that orders will be taken through April 30th, 2023 and that all in-stock items will be 50% off with the code "SAVENOW" to clear out their entire remaining inventory.

This is not the first time FrozenCPU has shuttered. Back in 2015 they closed with little warning after a dramatic series of events led to warehouse damages and all personnel being fired. Accounts went uncredited, vendors went unpaid, and shipments never left. The company returned after a few months with an entirely new team of staff and leadership, looking to clean the slate and pave a new road forward. Vendors were appeased, previous orders fulfilled, and for the last five years they've remained fairly untroubled.

FrozenCPU has posted a news post simply titled, "Sad Goodbye" which reads as follows:
FrozenCPU, a pioneer of liquid cooling for desktops since 1999, has decided to close their online retail operation. They have enjoyed great success since its inception when determined founder, Mark Friga, started the company out of a 1-bedroom apartment in upstate NY. That success is attributed to impeccable customer service, offering many custom modifications and being in a niche market that exploded in popularity.

They will move away from ecommerce to focus on expanding their ModRight brand. In 2013 they made a splash when then owner, Mark Friga, developed and patented the first of its kind anti-static assembly mat. The ModRight Mod-Mat Xtreme allows you to build or assemble PC components while staying safe from electrostatic discharge due to the mat material. The useful measuring devices printed on the mat in full color is what makes it so special.

"We want to Thank everyone for their patronage through the years and our loyal fans and followers for being there along the way with us over the past 23 years. It was a fantastic journey, and this was not an easy decision. We persevered through ups and downs and have now reached the time for change. Moving forward with ModRight products and partnerships is our future. We will still be here but in a different capacity", says the current owner, Lori Neva.

Everything is for sale, says Neva. They will have cash and carry days for all furniture and fixtures at the warehouse in Rochester, NY. Online orders will be accepted through April 30, 2023. Check the website www.frozencpu.com for more information and 50% off all IN STOCK items.

I wonder why they didn't patent the anti static mod mat? Seems like that would be a huge source of money... cause everyone and their mom has an anti-static mod mate these days...

Man, another one gone. I'm sad to see them go. I've bought boatloads of gear from them over the years :(
I still have several favorites saved I wanted to buy from them. I'll have to check out what's left.

For the aircooling crowd. They have alot of heatsinks, fans and other cool gear. With 50%off it won't last.

Yeah I saw they had decent inventory on quite a few hard to get (cheaply) fan sizes. Also they carried Noctua products, so this is a chance to grab those at a great discount.

Just wanted to confirm that true to their word the discount code works like a charm! Just saved $100 off a
Koolance pmp 450s(d5), Koolance coolant and some Bitspower fittings ;)

I hate to profit off of Frozencpus demise but if I don't someone else will.

I'm tempted to buy this, just because we will probably never see anything like this ever made again. Wild, lol

I'll B checking this out -- I've bought lot's of gear from frozencpu in the past. I'll be sad to see them go. I ordered a silverstone penetrator 180 fan. If they had a better case selection left I probably would've bought a new case too.

I haven't bought from them since the 2015 debacle. The way the whole thing went down was beyond ridiculous. I wish the current employees well and pray they are able to find work elsewhere.

Yo - Blaylock!!! :toast:

I recall that too but I've never bought anything from them before TBH.
No need to worry about it these days, I've got enough stuff to last me until I'm just "done" anyway including a barely used Danger Den waterblock for Socket 754/939.

Hi,
Don't believe I've ever bought anything from them
Their website looks like performance pc though which i have shopped their.

There were to many bad vibes from the first closing to waste time with them since unfulfilled orders were a common complaint.
No need to test waters and the original owner was still there.

FrozenCPU was pretty good in the early 2000's before the coke addled nutcase of an owner screwed it up. He's long since been gone from the company now though.

Hi,
Not really he was still the owner he just wasn't as active in day to day operations the way I saw it written on oc.net long ago.

I'm not surprised. I was looking at buying some stuff from them about a month ago. 95% of their items were out of stock, and the remaining items that were in stock were way overpriced (probably the reason they were unsold).

I have no complaints about the 10 or so orders I've made with them over the last 5 years, but they weren't anything unique compared to other stores.

Ordered just to have. I'm collecting m.2 coolers presently because I can't find reviews on lesser known models and I like the small scale engineering. Same goes for this cooljag, its just cool.

Performances pcs is still around. The good old days of hanging around Fry's in the bay area before the dot com economy took mmm off, ordering from frozencpu, New egg after it launched.

I hear ya. I used to order laing ddc 3.2s a couple of times a year from them @ $49.99 a pop (everywhere else was $70-$90)for my budget loops, until they ran out of them. But everything else of interest from them was so overpriced I couldn't understand how they were making any money. For example, Swiftech d5s for $180? Cmon, no one is buying that when you could get a laing/lowara d5 pump head for $69 from ppcs or Amazon.
Until they announced this sale, I hadn't ordered anything from them in 3 years.

My first of 3 orders showed up short a bottle of coolant. The box isn't even big enough to fit another bottle of coolant, so the picker/packer knew what was up. To top it off the support number is weak af. Not even an opportunity to get stuck in a que. Just a call back message. So you basically have to rely on email encounters. We all know how well that generally works out.
-Sigh-
20yrs of flawless service until today. Maybe the owner is monitoring this thread...

If you guys haven't seen it yet, primochill lrt (the best soft tubing you can get imo) is filthy at FrozenCPU, $24.99-$29.99per 10ft box at 1/2 off. I ordered a couple in my last but I'm seriously considering another couple boxes...or more. Reason? The idiotic prices I'm seeing at the other wcing joints right now. Amasuck- $39.99, Titanrig $29.99+$9.99sh haven't checked ppcs recently but they were about the same when I last ordered some clear tubing a few weeks ago.
There are some nice deals on older bp fittings as well.

Because anti-static mats have been around for decades? Pretty sure you can't patent putting fancy prints on them.
