Well,:lovetpu:

i written my first post on TPU (my avatar is a google tpu) about new hardware, found what i need and thanks : 7800X3D.......

Now it's time to understand things, it's about games bc this PC i build is meant to that, but not new gen eclusively, older games too and some emulated.

I was not at home during a few years, when i came back there was Win 10 and hardware became what it is (Fressync, hz, watts consumption...).

I use Win 10 or/and Win 11, i choose to have a dualboot, 11 is ugly but looks like to work better overhaul (should be my default O/S)... don't know about how it hadles DX9 games.
I have NvidiaProfileInspector's enough knowledge to use correcly (bits if needed..), and use Process lasso too.

//

I play always (without exception) in fullscreen (and try to use exclusive), i thinked it was a good idea to never use borderless mode (i don't ALT-TAB, never, bc : i play the game and that's all) and also use ways to force it when needed (aka unity's " -window-mode exclusive" argument... UE ini's settings).

I'm lost, about things like FSO (fullscreen optimisations) that'd have to be disabled (by exe proprieties, or faster with Nirsoft AppCompatibilityView) or MPO that has his own Nvidia page :confused: with registry scripts to disable or re-enable the thing.

There is also things like GPU scheduling, or Timers thingies, i don't understand anything about all of this.

//

What about FSE, FSO off or MPOs, how does it works today ?

-window-mode exclusive works for VRR/Gsync support in those pesky Unity games................if you never alt+tab, ever. Half the time the mere act of alt+tabbing with -window-mode exclusive completely grenades the game and you alt+tab back into a blackscreen. And if you want to combine it with Disable Fullscreen Optimizations, well, I hope you like long-ass blackscreen during alt+tab, on top of the buggy alt+tab crashing.

Of course, if MPO legitimately causes problems on your specific Geforce/Radeon card, then there's no way around it.
  • Hardware scheduling: it was iffy on release but definitely seems better now, on Windows 11, in 2023. Some modest gains in a variety of games, but whether you benefit depends on the specific game and your specific setup. Gains are not quite as pronounced as ReBAR for RX7000, but hardware scheduling should still be positive for 40 series.
  • Resizeable BAR: on Nvidia the game must also be on Nvidia's whitelist for ReBAR to actually work. So not too useful usually. But on RX6000 and RX7000 cards ReBAR should be on, you get a good performance boost in almost all games.
  • Disabling HPET: yeah......no. 99% of the time complete bogus suggestion, if you are struggling with stuttering issues, you need to look literally anywhere for effective solutions.

HPET is... Timers thingie ?! Hell no, i won't touch that, you're right.

ReBAR, i think about three games i could have it used for, not more, (4070ti)... disabling it in BIOS won't at all change anything for games that don't use it (NV profiles) !?

HW schedule... i won't touch, OKay. I'm on DualBoot, Win 10/11 (Win install tomorrow).

//

So:

MPO is of any help for ALT+TAB behavior ?.. i extremely rarely use ingame exteral gui, some mods have an interface to popup for accessing on the fly config, but that's all.

Fullscreen without even one ALT+TAbbing a year, is the way i play games, i have a tablet to look at walkthrough...
Except ALT+TAB, is there anything else it changes... Special-K team recommends to not disable FSO, but if it's only one argument and i don't need it.

The point of Windowed VRR/MPO is to do what "-window-mode exclusive" does, but with better alt+tab, no bugginess, and possibly better input latency (depending on game). So yeah, it helps.

I haven't had any game where Disable Fullscreen Optimizations has helped. Just makes alt+tab extremely slow and extremely buggy. Don't touch it unless nothing else can solve the problem.
