Just to be clear for everyone use it at your own risk
Let me say it again... use it at your own risk

  • If you are willing to continue then please be careful and mindful on each step.... I'm not responsible for any damages that result from the use of those files I'm sharing that I will be providing to you. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I recently got my hands on Crucial T500 2TB and I faced problems updating the firmware updates online through Crucial Storage Executive software and it will always errors out... luckily I found a way to do it without too much hassle and doing it offline easily on Crucial Storage Executive. Thanks to this reddit user post for giving this idea! as I didn't have time for replacement and going through the hassle for it.

If you are too afraid to follow the steps below or if you don't trust a random guy from the internet (Which I totally understand)...You can actually know which FW version you have at the back sticker of the SSD before slotting it in or before even using it... If you got FW: P8CR001 then refund or return it, this way it saves you the time and allows you to easily do request of a replacement or refund and saves you the hassle finding it out later after moving in all your files.

For those users who got Crucial T500 NVMe SSD (doesn't matter which size you got) who can't update the firmware through Crucial Storage Executive online... you can do it manually offline by using those FW files that I have shared below on this main post attachment which will get you updated to FW P8CR004 version.

This also applies for those who received with T500 with older FW version like "P8CR001", The way I did it is simply editing the firmware.properties file. I only edited the "precondition" line to accept and allow the SSD with FW P8CR001 to get updated to P8CR004.

Code:
pkg_ver=2
[P8CR004]
drive_model=3500P5
firmware_type=CR
capacity=512,1024,2098,4096
precondition=P8CR001

This means it will allow T500 with P8CR001 FW to get updated to P8CR004 straight without the hassle of retuning the SSD and getting it replaced, bec. when you have T500 with P8CR001 FW... it won't let you update your FW to P8CR004 and will reject it due to "precondition" line requirements which needs P8CR001. People with P8CR001 FW had to replace it or contact crucial for replacement in case you got unlucky for getting P8CR001 FW.

Officially only those who have T500 with FW P8CR002 can allow you to update to P8CR004 normally without any extra steps by simply downloading the file from the official website and using it but if you got P8CR001.. you can't do it normally and you gotta edit the firmware.properties file as mentioned previously to get it updated to P8CR004.

I only made a little bit mod... I edited the "precondition" line to accept and allow the SSD with FW P8CR001 to get updated to P8CR004. This means will allow T500 with P8CR001 FW to get updated to P8CR004 straight without any hassle of retuning the SSD and getting it replaced, bec. when you have T500 with P8CR001 FW... it won't let you update your FW to P8CR004 and will reject it. Only those who have T500 with FW P8CR002 can allow you to update to P8CR004 normally without any extra steps but if you got P8CR001.. you can't do it normally, hence the file I have shared below on this main post attachment will allow you to get updated to FW P8CR004 version.

I asked crucial support of why I can't update the FW and they said if you got P8CR001 then request a return for it.

Since I was outside the return window... told myself "hell no in getting into this hassle" and decided to fix it myself.. and it worked :laugh:

What the actual f**k, they would rather incur the cost of an RMA than fix their POS firmware updater?

This is how companies fail, people.
