Here is a picture of the new card:

I think that a very important bit of information for anyone considering this "card" is that its length has been reduced from 33.5cm to 22.5 - a much more acceptable figure for "ordinary" systems.

Nah... we would've heard more about it if video cards suddenly went dual core.

Maybe they aren't required anymore thanks to SLI x16 finally being out. At least that is what I hope because I hate those damn SLI bridges.

x2 means that there are 2 PCBs screwed together with an interconnect, using one PCIe x16 slot.
can be seen quite nicely here (shot of the old version of the card, but the new short one still uses 2 PCBs):

the old cards were much larger:

cheers

so its a double card, hence the x2, not dual core. is this meant for quad SLI over the 32x SLI bus without need for the SLI bridge?

GeForce 7950GX2 is the official name of NVIDIA's retail version of GeForce 7900GX2; the dual-GPU card that has been used by PC builders to create Quad SLI configurations. We've had this name confirmed by an anonymous source where the final launch date also has been revealed. NVIDIA has decided to launch its GeForce 7950GX2 cards on May 30 after having decided between a number of dates in May. The reason for the delay of the retail version of NVIDIA's dual-GPU card wasn't revealed but there seems to have been some technical difficulties. We're guessing that the PC builders also wanted some more time to sell their complete Quad SLI systems before the retail cards become available. The price of the GeForce 7950GX2 is expected to be €890, making a Quad SLI setup far from cheap.
We can assure you that we will return with more information about NVIDIA's super video card when we get a hold of it, but those who can't bear to wait until May 30 we know that XFX's GeForce 7900GX2 card will become avilable as a Quad SLI upgrade kit from northern Europe retailer Komplett soon. The kit consists out of two video cards, motherboard, power supply and a chassi. The package costs 18 995 SEK ($2,550), but only ONE kit will be available and I'm not sure if I should tell you this but I know that someone in our staff is having some real cravings for this system.
some more info about the 7950GX2 and de Quadro FX4500 X2 is supposed to based in this design... and also if you look at the "things to mount it to the chassis" u can see that its dual-slot but its behind the card.. so its 2 cards put to eachother

There already is dual GPU setups on one PCB.

That is awesome.. video card technology is rapidly changing.

Nope, on core per PCB. So basically just 2 normal cards strapped together to use the same PCI-E slot.

From what I have been hearing, this card will not be Quad-SLI enabled, hence the missing external SLI connectors. It, instead, will just be regular SLI, but you only need the one card...which is really two cards.
