im making a mini review of the HR-02 on a µATX board brb

ram clearance

top board side (it doesnt hang out too much)

and a little sexy close shot just fo' show

addition to that : the setup is in a HAF XB its a AM2+ (basically same as a AM3+ with some mm more or less on clearance, AMD didn't change the holes and bracket from the 939 till the AM3+ (even FM1/FM2) despite the size of the cooler it would even fit in the Antec NSK3480 wich has no space between the mobo and the top of the MB tray and the NSK3480 is waayyy smaller than a Antec One ;)

indeed on a AMD setup (or intel) blowing backward is "normal"

That fits quite well, then. I guess it goed between the Noctua, the Seidon, and the HR-02... If money is no matter, which one performs the best?

Still keeping the Scythe Ashura in the back of my head as backup plan.

Seidon 120XL still

i would put on equal ground the Brocken 2 Ashura and HR-02, most of the time the macho is just 1-2° under the TR Silver Arrow SB-E

the Macho is 7° lower than a CM H212 Evo and 8° lower than a Noctua L12 12° lower than a Noctua L9 i'm always talking of a 7v fan template 12v its pretty much the same and the macho is also the quietest on 7v (only beat by the Noctua L9 but the temp difference make up for it)on 12V noise is average 44,6db

so if i take the HR-02 Macho (45€ average) versus Silver Arrow SB-E (75€ average)
7V SA SB-E temp: 48° noise: 37db,
HR-02 temp: 51° noise: 36.9db
12V SA SB-E temp: 44° noise: 45.2db
HR-02 temp: 47° noise: 44.6db

both are Thermalright and one is high end but the lower one keep it up to the top cooler, in fact the macho is on par with the top highest cooler recommended the only cons i find (and its not a big one) is the finish (IE cooper pipes aren't nickel plated, trivial isn't it? )30€ difference in price but top notch performance (as said the SA SB-E and HR-02 Macho are above the other cooler i stated)

Brocken 2 and Ashura are 1-2° higher than the macho so depending the price one of those 3 is a good idea.

top cooler no matter the price? Silver Arrow SB-E extreme with 2500rpm fan or a SA SB-E with 2 Delta 38mm 5k rpm fan :D

the highest tdp cpu i used the HR-02 on was a Phenom II X4 955 @ 4,2ghz and a i7-920 @ 4,4ghz the temp where pretty much good and the noise not too high

if my H70 wasn't intel mount only i would put it instead in the µATX build and the Macho would be in the main rig ... now i'm tied in switching and reselling the H70 and buy a Ashura or a Brocken 2 ...

Whichever you end up choosing, remember to check for the full dimensions when equipped with the fan(s) as well as the space available in your case so you don't get surprised when mounting it in.

Thermalright HR-02 Macho PCGH-Edition. Exactly 50 euro. How high is this? if it's ~160mm i should be able to fit it.

If it's possibly too big i'm going to check the dimensions and get either the Seidon or the Noctua.

*standards raised*

The editors of the magazine PC Games Hardware have the popular Thermalright HR-02 Macho cooler optimized and made a silent version of it. The PCGH Edition features a completely new fan, the (maximum 800 U / min) operates whisper quiet even at full speed and a 3-pin Molex connector has PWM instead. Visually, a lot has changed, because now the fan blades are painted black and shaped slightly differently. In the test of PC Games Hardware the noise level with the PCGH Edition of 1.1 to 0.4 Sone Sone has more than halved, with the CPU temperature has only increased by one degree Celsius. More information: http://www.pcgh.de/macho

i would not recommend the PCGH over the Rev.A, 800rpm silent optimized hum ... i prefer 1300rpm :D

well its a Macho rev A wich trade 1-2° temps for a more quiet operation... so basically not bad at all (but it put on the same perf of the Brocken 2 and Ashura)

still you can maybe order a Ty-147 fan (the one the macho Rev.A has) they are also quite cheap, but it would add to the 50€ price and the Macho Rev.A is 45€ average price with a TY-147

the link i put here put 42,99€ for the PCGH and 39,99€ for the Rev. A BW ... hell delivery take a lot compared to where i live

So the Ashura/Brocken2 would be just as good as the PCGH edition? Because in that case i'm getting the cheaper Ashura...

I liek what i see here. Going to check if the Macho's in stock anywhere, and otherwise Ashura it is, unless anyone comes up with other good, perhaps better price to performance ratio'd coolers. Noise is no big deal as long as it isn't AMD Stock cooler-loud. Maybe this AF 7PR2 will turn my secondary (i3-3220 non-K) rig into an ice cube xD

im specialized in going overkill on cpu ... after all i cooled a 45w Phenom II X2 710 (athlon II core) with the IFX-14 i have and also the Macho on a 95w Phenom X4 9600B keep it under 35° during gaming (light gaming ... eh ... that build have only a MSI N460GTX Hawk ... )

well better price/perf ratio on air than those 3 cooler is hard to reach

Well, the kid in me wants the Ashura because it looks so cool, and the sensible(but lazy) part of me wants the Macho R. A but doesn't want to pay shipment x2.

Does the Ashura come with two fanc, and is performance with two fans better? If so i'm getting that.

what the hell is that comment ... the macho and the Ashura perform same .,... looking cool or not ...

1c is the difference ...... then obviously a rad with 2 fan perform better ( per fan added the Decibels doesnt double but add 3db to it IE: 2 30db fan generate 33db and not 60db) the macho too has a second fan possibility.

NOW STOP, get the Ashura its more than enough ... (i woul;d allready have chosen the Ashura if i where you, obvious is obvious) 1 fan or 2 doesnt matters, with 1 it perform good enough and if its still not enough you have the possibility to pay more and get 1 fan more either.

;) im trying to help you ... hesitating too much in front of the obvious is not good, no offense.

That's minimal. I'm ordering the Ashura then. Thanks for all of the advice!

Hey guys!
Am i have a problem :p i recently decided to buy a new CPU cooler and that was Raijintek Ereboss....but lately ive been having second thoughts if it will fit or not :X (cause of my RAM mostly) .I have Kingston HyperX Predator on a ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 and as far as im able to measure im lacking somewhere between half a centimetre to a whole centimetre (my backup plan is to buy the Brocken 2 if the Raijintek turns out a tight fit) can you confirm that i cant place Ereboss on that motherboard with those RAM sticks?
Thx for the info :) (just for reference my case is FD Define R4)

normally that should fits tightly but still ok, the ereboss is less excentered than the TR HR-02 Macho Rev.A but it has a 12mm fan instead of a 25mm i use low profile on my rig but even with higher ram heatsink the macho was fitting perfectly

IMG_0986.jpg IMG_0991.jpg IMG_1029.jpg

pics 1 and 2 on a 1366 socket with some Viper ram and Dominator touching but no problem at all pics 3 the actual setup i use, the Ereboss fit almost the same

also the Brocken 2 is a good choice too (or the Scythe Ashura)

Thanks for the info...i think ill go the safe way and get the Brocken 2(since Scythe arent available at all where i live) and since the firm ill order from wont take the Ereboss back if it doesnt fit to exchange it for a Brocken 2 .
Otw i think you are correct ... my measurements around the socket show that i lack around 0,5cm for it to be a perfect fit :p
