I have 7700xt ASRock Steel legend paired with EVGA Supernova G2 650w 80 gold plus certificate.Everything is good for now but I have a good offer for swapping my 7700 xt for the same brand of 7800 xt , the thing that bothers me is can I upgrade to 7800 xt ASRock steel legend using the same PSU I have now ? I see their difference is only 10-15 watts in terms of TDP (7700 is 245-250w max and 7800 xt is rated at 263watts) ? Can I skip paying extra for a bigger psu ? (I don't overclock my components and my cpu is R5 5600x OC by default)

even with the 7800 XT you will be around 350w total power in gaming, plenty of head room left by with solid built unit by SF. Nothing to sweat about

Really thank you to all of you ! I tought it will be fine but I must ask first because the official websites of the GPU brands says MINIMUM:700w or greater PSU. I did some calculations at: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator and it says 553W recommended PSU but when official website of the GPU manufacutrer says 700w or greater its alarming

we can go down the rabbit hole of how not all 700w are really 700w PSU but basically the AIB partner needs to set a standard for the lowest performance model. The PSU calculator was more accurate stating a quality 550w unit would be capable of handling that set up. The EVGA unit is well built by a good manufacturer so nothing to worry about.

Given you have a 5600X processor, these will work. If you upgrade to a higher wattage chip down the road, you will probably need to replace the power supply to ensure reliable operation. Fortunately, the best upgrade course for your machine would be the 5700X3D, which should still be fine. The G2 series are excellent with solid performance, but you should still keep in mind that yours is the tiny 650 watt version.

I have the 1300 watt G2, and it handles my high end rig like a champ. No compatibility issues with my RTX 4080 either, all I needed was an aftermarket cable with the right connector.

I was thinking about the more affordable way of upgrading my build with upgrading only my CPU , but given the fact that I have 100% GPU usage and only 40-60-70% and in very rare scenarios (when loading games) 99% cpu usage I thought CPU ugrade is not needed in my pc configuration and headed to GPU upgrade. Also there is no big difference between 5600x and 5700X3D when I looked at the youtube gaming tests between these 2 cpus

No use being fixated on a percentage reading, but there is not much you can do with a 5600X. If you upgrade the GPU, whatever bottleneck you are running into will likely just get worse. That processor was great but it is now heading into its 5th year of service and it was never super high end to begin with.

Considered you already have the 7700 XT, you should probably just buy yourself a 5700X3D instead. Probably the best upgrade for you right now, since you already have 32 GB of RAM.

but I have GPU bottleneck , my CPU is barely reaching 70% utilization during gaming while GPU is always 99-100% (I play on 1440p usually ultra settings with AMFF) And I think 5600 is released 2022 , and 5600x 2023 august ,that's like 3 years since 5600 and 2 years since 5600x release I think. What do you mean CPU upgrade ? Can you elaborate more here for me please ?Ofcourse 5600x is definately not top tier CPU but for mid-range pc such as mine I think it's good considering the fact that there is not much difference in FPS during gaming between 5600x and 5700X3D version after I watched some youtube gaming test comparison videos ?My build is not super-high-end at all , I can't afford such a pc neither I have needs of such a pc , just casual gaming on my fav titles like Squad,WarThunder,World of tanks , Battlefield 2042, CS2 and now I play Indiana Jones The Great Circle too... I must miss something and I will be glad if you elaborate a little more :D And I forgot to mention that I can't affor both upgrades, I must choose between CPU or GPU.At the end, my aim is to improve my performance as much as I can considering I have to choose between CPU or GPU but the question is which one will Improve FPS more in 1440p ?

What about 7900 GRE or 7900 XT ?
7900 GRE pulls slightly more than the 7800 XT but not a real world difference so you would OK,

7900 XT pulls about 50-60w more in gaming than the 7800 XT but can spike to over 400w alone which may trigger the PSU OCP in some games while others work fine depending on the exact game and demands.

I decided to go with 7800XT because rn I can't afford 7900GRE even more 7900XT neither more I want some PSU problems so 7900XT for sure drops out in my case, but @Dr. Dro confused me a little bit and right now I am wondering which one to upgrade - cpu or gpu :( I am searching trough the internet and everyone says upgrading from 5600x to 5700X3D is not a big difference while I am seeing 99% gpu utilization which makes me think I have to upgrade GPU , but I want to hear from Dr.Dro what he have to say because he intrigued me and now I am аt a loose end...

depends on the exact game client as some can take advantage of the larger X3D cache

can't answer that question without knowing the following

what games or apps are you using or planning to use
what is your current performance in those apps/games
what kind of performance are you looking for from those apps/games

Well on first place for me is Squad ,then CS2, Warthunder,World of tanks, Indiana Jones, BF 2042 maybe Starfield and couple more games + browser for facebook etc.I am not using discord or some streaming apps ,just a pc for mid-range gaming with browser.World of tanks is a not questionable game because I get 165fps on a 165hz monitor and it's locked on ultra settings so yep this game is out of the list. The most important one is Squad for me. I have ~220 fps on 1400p ultra settings with AMFF enabled , when disabled - 100-120. And in both scenarios gpu is at 100% so I play with AMFF.Maybe the most CPU demading game I play is Battlefield 1 or CS2. I can't complain from CS2 since I have stable 165fps for my 165hz monitor and Vsync enabled but in order to do that i have to enable AMFF.In some games AMFF decrease picture quality , but in most does not.

this doesn't mean anything, if the game client doesn't need that much CPU utilization to begin with

I watched some youtube gaming test comparison videos ?
don't, half those videos are made by gamers to justify a purchase. better off with well written reviews from people who do hardware reviews for a living

In 2024 I don't know which one to listen at anymore so I am asking in forums and trying to find logic in people reccomendations and advices :) .I am not really into tiny little hardware details that matter and have only basic hardware knowledge( ''I know that 7700 is slower than 7800 = bigger number = bigger performance'' ahh logic )What do you think -which one should I go with considering the titles I gave you ?

What I noticed is that my GPU is always at 100% in any game , just the wattage is changing

And in both scenarios gpu is at 100% so I play with AMFF.Maybe the most CPU demading game I play is Battlefield 1 or CS2. I can't complain from CS2 since I have stable 165fps for my 165hz monitor and Vsync enabled but in order to do that i have to enable AMFF.In some games AMFF decrease picture quality , but in most does not.
so these are all MMO games. You can't fix any upstream issues in those games but downstream issues with your hardware, the 5700X3D would help raise the floor on your lows and team up well with the 7800XT to further push up avg FPS thanks to it's extra cache which helps in core latency with many of these games since they like to dump as much as they can on one to two cores. So Dr. Dro would be correct in statement just don't let him know that, we don't need him to start thinking he knows what he's talking about.

What I noticed is that my GPU is always at 100% in any game , just the wattage is changing
well most games you should GPU limited so that's not a bad thing (in general)

really the question you (or anyone) should be asking is "Do I like the performance I'm getting from my PC?" without using benchmark tools to answer that question

But the thing is I have to choose between CPU or GPU upgrade , can't do both at this point ;[[ Either I go with 5700X3D and stay with my 7700 XT or I go with 7800XT + the 5600X I have now :l It's logically that If I upgrade both will be the best solution but I can choose only one :D

I love the performance I got in the most games I play , just a couple of them are barely under the minimum I want (stable 165 fps for my 165hz monitor without any graphics compromises) so I can lock them without AMFF because AMFF is disabling the V sync

the 7800XT is the better upgrade of the two and impact higher FPS, the 5600 is still a capable modern day gaming CPU for the 7800 XT

My main game is Squad , It says that it's CPU bond game.Still I have low cpu utilization and high gpu utilization at this game...Any idea why is this happening and what is the point of upgrading CPU for CPU intensive game like Squad when my current(old) cpu is not reaching even 60% in Squad ? I guess it will improve the lows but anything more than that ? :D Is there something I do wrong ?

Squad when my current(old) cpu is not reaching even 60% in Squad ?
I've never played it but reading through the steam community it's obvious low FPS is the norm. Like I said previously, it's an online game from an indie developer who is probably dumping as much rendering as they can on one or two cores or they can have bad upstream server issues which is completely out of your control (although you tends to see rubber banding and spiking with that). So if only a few cores are used you are going to have a low CPU utilization which is common in online games and even in single player games much of the work is only done by a handful of cores.

Is there something I do wrong ?
no, it seems to be working the same across the board for players so nothing you did wrong

but I have GPU bottleneck , my CPU is barely reaching 70% utilization during gaming while GPU is always 99-100% (I play on 1440p usually ultra settings with AMFF) And I think 5600 is released 2022 , and 5600x 2023 august ,that's like 3 years since 5600 and 2 years since 5600x release I think.

Like I said, being obsessed with a percentile number is not productive nor does it show an actual quantifiable measurement of a bottleneck existing or not. Buying a faster GPU will not increase the numbers you see from task manager. This percentage actually gets quite low if you have a lot of CPU cores, but hardware utilization is perfectly adequate for the game I am running:

Ultimately if you are not after a high end build, you can rest easy - you do not need to upgrade anything in your machine then. Just because CPU usage does not say 100% it does not mean that you have untapped potential there.
