GPU Clock Plummets Down to 300Mhz after a while of gaming

I have a got a brand new asus tuf f15 FX506LU gaming laptop it has gtx 1660 ti notebook. When playing games after a while the gpu speed plummets down to 300 mhz and stays like that. I have tried reinstalling gpu drivers for both intel and nvidia using DDU but that didn't fix the issue at the imgur link you can see it drops down to 300 mhz when it was running at the normal clock speeds. Is this a hardware issue or bios/software issue. I have found out that unplugging the power cable and plugging back in solves this problem but its super annoying to do.

PerfCap Reason = Thm, maybe it just runs too hot? Jeez, thats way over 80C. Btw, tuf laptops come with really crappy thermal paste, make sure to replace it to get better temps.
It might also be a bios related issue (since in notebooks they usually put hybrid bioses, and who knows what sort of bugs it might have), BUT first make sure to lower the temps.

It has a limit of 95 degrees and since I have got it new replacing the thermal paste will ruin the warranty it has a sticker on the heatsink screws. I can undervolt the gpu but it might cause another issue since it doesn't run stable for now. And if it was about thermal throttling a quick plugging in and out wouldn't solve the problem right? when I replug the adapter in again the issue doesn't happen in the game session even if I max out the settings. I'm just confused at this point.

95c may be the CPU thermal limit, but a GPU is usually lower, in the 80's.
I agree with the previous poster, it is thermal throttling.

Buy one of those laptop cooling pads things with the fans on. They work.....on some laptops.

its overheating, The thermals on this particular Family are notoriously poor
there is NO fix for this unit that doesn't involve a Dremel

if it trips the thermal protect on something then yes a full power cycle will be required to restore full operation

remove the bottom cover to see if it corrects the behavior
if it does, get your dremel out and get cutting your going to need to cut out the vents on the bottom to clear the intake, and then apply some filtering mesh so it looks halfway decent (You can get sqaures of it on amazon and cut to size and afix with a couple dots of superglue

while you are in there I would also recommend Acquiring a a small flat heatsink on amazon and afixing it to the chipset with thermal cement(not thermal paste CEMENT!)

The laptop is new so dremelling it will ruin the warranty for sure.

The video that you have sent is A15 laptops F15 s doesn't suffer from this problem people say.

And if it was thermal throttling issue would a simple plug in and out during the game solve the issue for the rest of the gameplay session? The thermals don't change after the plugging in and out.

EDIT: I'm going to downgrade the bios to see if the issue happens there too.

So apparently my laptops fan controlling app was broken until I reinstalled it again these are the temps I'm getting playing the same game and the issue didn't happen for now.

So it was the temps causing it to throttle. I second the advice of buying a cooling stand. They will lower your temps by up to 10% in my experience.

Good luck with it! :toast:

Yes I'm using it for some time, didn't experience this issue again after installing the laptops app.

Rule number 1 of IT work: If it is under warranty, let the manufacturer deal with it. Give them a call, if they can't resolve the issue over the phone, send it to them. DO NOT do anything you are uncomfortable doing under any circumstances, and do not do anything that will break your warranty even if instructed to do so by a representative.

If you are in the US, that warranty sticker means nothing. The FTC sent a message to all laptop companies that customers have the right to self repair years ago.
Your laptop is running hot. I dont know why some app should be downloaded to make the fans run properly. The laptop bios should do that job. In the 1st screenshot, the gpu temps where at 85C. If you look further back, the temp graph was much higher, so your gpu was thermal throttling.
You should get better thermal compound on the gpu die. Its overheating......

It's an asus laptop which comes with an app called armoury crate and it has 3 fan modes which cool the laptop enough, I don't live in states so I don't know if it's the same in the place I live. These laptops haven't got enough went holes to begin with so I wouldn't worry with 85 degrees a lot. It can currently handle all the games I throw at it with ease. When it the warranty ends I will modify the heatsink and vent holes to get it better and repaste both the gpu and cpu.
