GPU constantly at 89-90 degrees under load

Hello everyone.
I have an Asus TUF gtx 1660 gaming oc and its always running at 89 degrees. I repasted it not long ago but it didnt help...
Is there anything else I can do to make the temperatures drop a little?

My case has decent airflow, but the temps dont drop even with an open side panel and the front panel taken off...

Are there any mods or thermal pad solutions for this? I was thinking of finding a different card heatsink and putting it on there since the heatsink on this card is literally only covering the center...

Heres the link to the gpu:

Again - airflow is fine, current room temp is like 20 celsius because its cold outside... The paste is fresh, theres no dust

- YES I SET UP A CUSTOM FAN CURVE
- YES THE HEATSINK IS TOUCHING THE CHIP
-YES I TRIED UNDERVOLTING, IT CANT UNDERVOLT BELOW 1,000 mV because it crashes
- 90c makes the gpu throttle.

Hard to believe i paid 200 euros for this back in gpu draught...

- 90C doesn't sound like a big deal for modern cards. Maybe just accept the temps as they are?
- Undervolt/underpower/underclock the card by ~5%, it will likely drop temps by more than 10%.
- Maybe the heatsink isn't touching properly, consider repasting.

Were the memory pads ever replaced or even ripped ?, some one might of put ones on it to thick there for less contact with the GPU.

Can be a scuffed temperature sensor, honestly. Does ANY load above idle rocket the temperature to 90 degrees? No in-between? What about moderately graphically heavy games locked to 60?

Idle is at 55-60. Lower load goes to like 75ish, but high fps gaming just ramps to 85-90 degrees.

@dashful
Then either something is wrong with the cooler, the mount or the GPU itself is chugging mad power. There is no universe in which an issue-free 1660 idles at 60. Not unless you are hotboxing it.
So:
1. Can we get full system specs, case included, and fans with full layout of them preferably?
2. You can try re-pasting again, this time with something like a PTM sheet, but I am unsure that would help if the problem is the cooler itself.
3. As @P4-630 mentioned, what started the issue, if you can recall?

Tbh the card was always hot since i bought it. I searched on google and many posts came up about this model just being crappy. It has a small heatsink in the center and thats it, its a very bad cooling solution. Thats why im asking for some modding solutions but people are still constantly giving me the chatgpt solutions. Its repasted correctly, ive repasted all my gpus before.
My case is not a popular brand, but has good airflow.

Make sure both fans are working properly and fins on heatsink aren't clogged.
I guess metal part of cooler that touches GPU die is hot to touch ?

Why starting monitoring now.
What were the temps when you just got it?
Man i got it second hand 2 years ago the temps were always high but i want to try fixing it

Yeah as you can see in the picture the heat spreader is so small and the gpu just puts out too much heat for it to handle. I think this is one of the worst 1660 variants... I have an old broken nitro+ rx 470 but that heatsink is not compatible ofcourse.

Looks pretty damn bad, yeah. Still, looking at some reviews shows that it SHOULDN’T really be throttling. Not under custom curve and it idles in 40s. Still, here’s the PCB picture, maybe someone recalls if it’s compatible with some other cooler. I saw a Bykski block for it, but… come on.

This card has a really small heat sink. Nothing to fix...

If it's really too much for cooler for handle, you either have to replace the cooler, or decrease power generated by card. Undervolting will work, you just decrease maximum frequency GPU boost to (to a point it won't crash).
I own 1660 Ti and I can set 1620MHz as absolute max boost with 0.8V being maximum voltage.
You might be able to increase that frequency, but it depends on die quality.

Sorry if I came off stubborn but its a pc peripheral+case brand thats not popular in the world and its primary market is in the balkans, its called MS. The case has an open mesh front and top.

I did some undervolting with msi afterburner, the lowest I could get without crashing is 1mV. When I would go to 0.950mV it would crash the driver in game.

The heatsink looks real cheap, but it's a 1660, they put identical cards into cramped laptops. 60C for idle is absolutely abnormal in 20C ambient temp.
Can you confirm you've monited it being consistently around 60C under <5% load? That just seems hard to believe and if it's true I'll repeat my previous advice: Repaste the heatsink as it is likely not touching somewhere.

Alternative might be buying a cheap 120mm fan and jury rigging it under the card to blow right at that sucker at maximum RPM. Would be cheaper. Very ghetto fix, but hey, you asked for modding advice and that’s what you’re getting. Some assembly will be required.

New monitor might explain temp increase, aka more demand from the frame generator

Thats easy to do.

I bought it, but still haven't recieved it yet. Still using the 1080p 60hz (new monitor will be 1080p 180hz MSI g255f)

I mean, yeah, but no properly built card should go to the throttling point just because the load is higher, that’s terrible engineering. Seeing that cooler though… I can believe it.
I also like the term you used, “frame generator”. Sounds like something from a mad scientist’s lab. It generated too many frames! It’s overheating! It’s alive. IT’S ALIVE!

I was looking for some broken second hand 1660 supers since they have a bigger heatsink on the TUF models but couldn't find any :/
