So I noticed that my game performance was not as good as before, so I decided to check GHelper (which I was using) and device manager, and I saw that my GPU had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark beside it, and when I double clicked it it said something like "this device is not working properly so windows shut it down". I don't have a screenshot of that unfortunately. So, I restarted my computer and now it's just "microsoft basic display adapter" or something, with an error code 31.

I tried installing drivers via both a download from rog.asus.com.cn and the Nvidia app, and neither helped. Now it's also not being detected in task manager. When I switched to the mode that connects directly to the discrete GPU (from GHelper AND Armoury crate - tried both), there were a lot of magenta stripes on the screen and it seems to be still running on the iGPU.

I updated the BIOS (to version 318), no Windows updates pending. Uninstalled display drivers with DDU and reinstalled them manually via download from Nvidia's support site. After a restart device manager still doesn't like it (Code 43), and no sign of it in task manager either.

Any ideas on why and maybe how to solve it?
Might this be a hardware problem?

Yes, for sure.

I bought a used MSI 3070 from Amazon Warehouse that had the same problem: Error code 43

The card barely succeeded in loading windows but after a few minutes I got artifacts so severe that made the display unusable.

I returned the card and got a refund.

Your card is damaged and could be on its last legs. RIP.

Had the same thing happen to a colleague's laptop - different model - once. In all likelihood, your dGPU is dead, and your system is limping along on iGPU. Seek repair if still in warranty or at reasonable cost, seek a new laptop otherwise. That colleague's machine did not even boot, when switched to dGPU in BIOS.

Sorry about what happened.
