Hey my 6970 Fan sounds really odd

its almost like a pulsating scratching noise and i dont know whats wrong
almost like something is blocking it but i checked and nothing is.



what is the problem?



yesterday when i was going to play Crysis 2 and i started the game the Fan kicked up higher speeds as usual and then suddenly it started to sound really odd

i think i know the noise, and if its the one i'm thinking of the fan is stuffed. either send it back under warranty, or replace the cooler with a third party one.

dont attempt to run the card without a working cooler, as you'll kill it sooner or later due to overheating.

Yep, that is distinctive sound of bearing failure. You can fix it temporally by simply pushing turbine impeller. New fan is needed! Can't be repaired, because old slave bearing is worn-out. Send it back for RMA or buy something like GELID Icy Vision Rev.2 .
