GTX 670 hit 100c on custom fan profile.

It's weird because this has never happened before but manually setting to 72% fan speed kept temps under 80c, i was playing CSGO when my card got extremely loud, it was throttling and cooling it's self down.

Is this just software messing it up?

Thermal paste dried out maybe? Dirty cooler? Check to see if the fan(s) are working correctly?

Did you forget to feed and bathe little kepler? A healthy serving of paste and a canned air bath is always good.

Naa guys fan did not ramp up from idle at all and hit 100c, i was too busy playing to notice until the fan kicked in at 100% and the framerate went to like 20 lol.

I used EVGA Precision, i have uninstalled and will try MSI AB..

Sounds like bad contact or a bad sensor. Fondle the heatsink when it says its at 100c and let us know if your skin sizzles.

Let us know the smell too.

I will just run some games now, was out earlier after posting the thread, created a new profile with MSI.

Ran Company of Hero's on 2560x1440 res maxed, fan ramps up nicely, GPU not maxing which is fine so that means the profile is working.

@Recon-UK which 670 do you have?
i have his big brother... with a reference cooler and with some wonky settings it has never reached 90C...
when was the last time you replaced TIM and give it a deep clean ?

It's clean and had a repaste as soon as it was bought, it's always ran hotter than i expected, just this time it went nut's because Precision borked up.

when ? reference cards use to keep and store several tons of dust all arround the blower... and the cooler fins.... also since they run little bir hotter the paste dries / burns a way faster too...

mine gets repasted and deep deeep deeeeeep clean up every year....

Maybe complete clean and re-paste will help. Is it overclocked?
Check if GPU fan/fans are spinning normaly - take a visual examination rather than using just software.
Try opening side pannel and see if that helps. If it does, you have poor case cooling/airflow.
If that's not an issue, check voltages - maybe GPU is pulling or receiving far more than it should.

Quality thermal paste such as Arctic MX-4 and good case airflow can lower temps significantly.

never use manual or capped fan speeds... sure make a target profile but have it still ramp up towards 100% from like 85 to like 93C

are you purposely not capping your framerate?

anyway i think you said that the profile didnt even turn on so it was stuck on idle? this is why i bios mod the fan, certainly made my 4870x2 much more enjoyable
