Having issues with network switch

A few months ago I purchased a tp-link 5 port gigabit poe network switch (TL-SG1005p) because I needed more ethernet connections from the one slot available but as of the last month or two the speed randomly goes from our full 1 gigabit speed to around 40-90 mbps and stays there until I unplug the ethernet from the switch wait around 5-10 seconds then plug it back in then it goes back up to full speed for a short period of time then eventually evens back out and stays around 40-90 download but full upload speed, I've replaced the ethernet cable that goes from the modem to the switch and that didn't seem to fix it, (I checked the modem device web panel there is no bandwidth throttle on anything) If I plug just my computer into the ethernet port that connects the modem to the switch instead I get the full speed just fine 24/7 but I need to have the extra ethernet ports for other devices + wifi box that's plugged into the switch and I'm not sure if it's a common issue that's fixable somehow or if I just need to straight up replace the switch but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Seems like it's mistaking a 1 gigabit incoming connection from the modem for a 10/100mb connection until it's re-plugged, the indicator led's show it as green whenever it's been freshly powered on or unplugged and replugged into it's ethernet source then swaps over to a yellow indicator led indicating 10/100mb connection after a while and there is no factory reset button or any switches, not sure of any way to spoof it into permanently staying a 1 gigabit connection either.

(edit 3) The networking solution in this house is a little wonky since it's a really large house, we have a 1gigabit comcast business package and their generic modem going into 2 large network switches downstairs that run into wall outlets around the house and only one of the wall outlets work over in the area I'm in, I'm assuming it's all cat5e cables ran from the modem to the switches to the wall plugs and I have all cat 6 ethernet cables plugged into the switch and all connecting devices to the switch (I know it's kinda redundant since the ethernet source is cat5e but it was around the same price and figured I'd take them with me in future moves and not need to buy new ethernet cables if they had more modern alternatives with higher than 1gigabit available) but hopefully this extra info helps in some way with determining the issue and if I need to replace the poe switch or not.

Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
Just buy a $8 non-Poe switch off Amazon and rule it out.

my money is on the 8 port being bad. Though both the Poe and root switch should have indicator lights letting you know if the port is 1g (green) or 100m(orange) at least generally.

next time
It happens look at the uplink on one or both to determine if the switch(s) are actually linking at 1g or 100m. If the port indicator says it’s still 1g replace the switch. If it says 100m run a new cable from the uplink.

the last time I had a problem like that with a switch was because of heat I ended up just cutting a hole in the top and replacing the HS on the main chip and connected a fan directly to the DC in never had the problem again

TP-Link-TL-SG1005P-Internal-785x420.jpg

see that tiny little HS that's the problem it's not big enough to cope with the amount of heat produced when your putting alot of traffic/data through the switch and causes it to overheat and run slow

You said you replaced the cable are you using FTP or UTP? From my experience FTP is worth the extra cost and the shielding can help with heat dissipation within a well as typical EMI.

I found the potential issue but not sure exactly what it is yet, I found the port I'm connected to on the main switch and it's set to auto select bandwidth speed on the device webpage and keeps randomly scaling me down from 1 gigabit to 100mb so I manually changed that port to forced 1gigabit and unplugged and replugged in my switch and so far it's still full speed but only time will tell if that holds up and was a auto scaling down issue, an issue with that port or if it's the ethernet cable and I'm not so sure if the cable can be replaced without pulling apart the walls since it's roughly 200-300 feet through about 6-7 walls and 2 floors from the switch in the basement to me on the other side of the house on the second floor since they were all ran while the house was still being built and there is no other ethernet wall outlet's besides one 2 rooms over from me and I'd have to run a 150-200 ft ethernet from that room around a few corners and through doorways to make it reach my switch but fingers crossed it was just a simple ethernet port issue on the main switch or a bug with the auto bandwidth scaling on the main switch.:banghead:

just had it go out entirely after around 1 1/2 hours of it working full speed flawlessly, so it seems like it wasn't a issue with the main switch in the basement randomly setting me to 100mb, since it was forced 1gigabit it just went out entirely, resetting the connection on my switch it turned back on fine so I went back down to the basement and swapped it to a different port and fingers crossed that's all that's needed

Hopefully,
damage to a single conductor with negate two pair dropping you down to 100mbs is all I'm worried about and it sounds like running a new cat cable is a chore. I have a single long run that links my main system to my router I can't count how many times I've had issues with it, I recently gave up fitting cheap rj45 connectors and instead went for tool-less shielded ones I hope it was just bad connections with the crimping causing the problems.

it seems like all but the wire ran to the wall is ftp and sadly the most important wire is utp and is having issues, replaced the switch over here with a cheap gigabit test dummy and same issue, tired capping the bandwidth to 1g same issue except it cuts out entirely instead of scaling down to 100mb, tried plugging it directly into the modem rather than the switch in the basement and same issue but after a longer period of time so it seems the options are have someone rerun a new wire here and see how intrusive the process is with having to tear up the walls to replace it or not, or just drill some holes in the walls 2 rooms over from me and route a new ethernet over here from the only other available location of pre-ran ethernet or see if comcast can maybe split another run off outside to link over here since the part of the house I'm in is an addition that was built onto the existing house years later but I appreciate all the help, I figured it would be a issue with the switch and not the wire ran here didn't really even cross my mind since I had no issues plugging only my computer into that port without the switch but I guess I didn't test it long enough to see if there would be issues with the ethernet cable ran over here dropping down over time :/

Kinda strange that my ethernet ran to the rj45 wall port is the only one having issues and it was the newest one installed since it was an addition that was built on years after the house was built but it could have been the person who installed it used a cheaper utp cable and all the older original runs were ftp and that's what's causing it but I can't know for sure without cutting open some wires since the only exposed ends running into where the modem and everything is in the basement are unlabeled blue I'm assuming cat5e cables

Cat cables come in all different colours so it being blue means nothing.

Personally I would buy some shielded two skin exterior cat cable and run it outside the house rather than fish through walls if that was an option. The cable might be more expensive but I'm sure it's nothing compared to decorating after running a new cable on the interior.

I have been on a bit of a MoCA kick lately.

This might be a solution for you, so you don't have to run any more wire.

Do you have coax throughout your house? More specifically, do you have a coax outlet near, or can run coax OR ethernet reasonably easily TO, the location of the switch, from the nearest coax outlet?

As I dont have cable service at my house, I dont have to worry about interference on the coax, but it is a concern if you use coax for TV or DOCSIS. Research your cable company's frequency spectrum and choose a MoCA adapter that will not interfere.

We do have coax ran throughout the house on the same wall plate as the ethernet but I'm not sure if it's even hooked up for half the house or anywhere besides downstairs seeing as how the 2 rooms near me don't even have the ethernet connected to the wall outlet's but I could try to find a cheapo moca 100mb test box that's on a different frequency since we do get cable and try it out, thanks for the help!
