I have replaced dozens of Ubiquiti branded PoE adapters lately. They are not from the same batch, but they have all been in service for less than 2 years. Nothing lasts forever, but I am getting a bit tired of this. I use PoE switches where possible, but this is not always the case.

What brand of PoE adapters are you guys using? What kind of lifespan are you getting out of them?

Iv used there adapters for years and they worked fine. I eventually moved to poe switching. It was an investment but adapters are not it. If you absolutely must and you really don’t like the ubi ones make sure whatever you get conforms to there AP if you happen to have an older one that uses passive or w/e that gen was before they standardized.

These are all pretty recent ones (manufactured within last 5 years). All genuine, from trustworthy sources, all of the same model more or less even. I have also used some for years and years in AWFUL environments. Yeah, I too use PoE switches wherever possible. It isn't that I don't like the Ubi ones, just have had lots of them dropping dead recently. I may grab a few other brands for testing (though im not big on the tp-link ones). I am not a fan of any of the ones that have the lan-in and poe-out on opposite sides of the box.

Yeah. maybe one or two still under warranty. It is typically one of those "pitch it and grab another" parts rather than it is something I bother with warranty (as usually, they are well out of warranty by the time they need replacing).

Specifically, what is happening is they drop from GbE to FE, then a few days after that, the AP starts to get flaky. In every single instance, what has fixed it is swapping out the PoE. I have tried cabling and AP swaps just to make sure i wasn't crazy or mis-diagnosing it. This is in different networks, at different sites, even different companies.

I guess I won't worry about it overly. Just venting as much as anything I suppose. Thanks for listening. I'd still welcome any suggestions on other PoE adapters.

Agree on both points. The TP links get hot, I usually deal with SFP/QSFP ports and gbics get spicy and tp links get warm enough to make me nervous
