For long-term data archiving, are only 3.5" HDDs good? Are 2.5" laptop HDDs, being smaller, not good for long-term archiving compared to SSD, MicroSD card and Pendrive?

2.5 inch
Pros: generally designed for portable environments so may be more tolerant to small g forces / movements when in use.

Cons: generally slower, usually implement power management that can impact drive lifetime when used 24/7, nothing in the drive technology that is inherently more reliable than 3.5 inch drives.

3.5 inch
Pros: generally faster, generally more robust for 24/7 use (when using an appropriate product SKU)
Cons: Not portable, can't work on a single USB connection, unlikely to have operating shock tolerance.

Common to both types:
Nothing suggests one has better data retention than the other in terms of data at rest when using normal commercial user drives.
Typically you might get some archive / near line storage drives likely only to come in 3.5 inch format, generally as there isn't a call for a 2.5 inch version anywhere.

2.5 inch drives may have some other minor design features that might make them survive a drop a bit better (talking about when powered off), but generally I'd expect a drop from a decent height onto a solid surface to be detrimental to both types.

OP has numerous threads on this and he just asks the same questions again and again and apparently he's making these on other forums as well.

An alternative option is to use an online storage provider where all needs for data retention will be taken care of short of an EMP attack.

Yeah, BackBlaze even have resorted to buying USB drives and stripping the bare drives out of them in the past... if anything that should make the OP feel right at home.

I'll rephrase "a reputable online storage provider". My humor doesn't kick in until my 2nd cup of coffee so you hit me a bit early. :slap:
