when I try to use internet options or disk cleaner to clear my temp internet files they get stuck in an endless search for the files that has gone 32 hours straight non-stop as of now. all the "just click this button" options don't fix it.

I recall a while back there was a way to go into the files and delete them manually to clear this corruption but I don't remember how

and I have something else strange going on as well. with "show all hidden files and folders" enabled, when I open "C:\Users\karl\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows" there is no temporary internet Files folder there but when I create one (thinking that was the problem) it tells me there is already a folder there with that name yet its not there

I have windows 7 home premium OS

and thanks for your help

Check your drive on errors and check SMART for reallocated sectors. If there's no problem with your drive then try to run third party apps (Wise Disk Cleaner or CCleaner) to clean temp files

drive checks out fine and I did run ccleaner, but windows is still broken

im not saying I have a "too many temporary files I cant delete issue" (maybe i do) but that's of secondary to the problem at hand which is that the delete function for them is non-functional in windows using disk cleaner or internet options

I see. Don't cleaner work in Windows' safe mode?
Did you run sfc / scannow? If something's broken it will try to fix it. If you don't have any crucial programs it's easier to back up all data and reinstall Windows

go to a command prompt. probably wind up in c:\users\<name>. type "cd %temp%" and see where you go. if you wind up in a temp folder do the "del *.* /S /F" thing.

but make SURE you are in ..\TEMP :D

ok the safe mode worked, I went to the temp file and deleted everything there but the FXSAPIDebugLogFile which I couldn't get rid of at all for some reason but the temp file deletion is now working in the internet options utility as well as disk cleaner now

thanks guys:toast:
