Help I can't boot my PC and I think it´s because of RAM´s voltage

Hi!,

I bought a new PC a few weeks ago:

-Mobo: Asus Strix Z690-F
-CPU: i9 12900K
-RAM: Kingston Fury Renegade DDR5 6400 (2x16)
-GPU: The one that I had in another PC, 3080Ti

And it was working "fine" for 2 weeks or so but suddently I started having freezes. When CPU or GPU where totally idle and I was just posting in a forum for instance, I could hear a brief electric sound and system totally froze.

That´s been happening the last days and now I can't even boot with 2 Ram sticks (slots 2&4), I only can with 1 stick in slot "1".

I had XMP at the beginning but someone told me that i9 12900K supports DDR5 4800 and maybe if I was trying with 6400 it was not possible, so I lowered it but same result.

I guess maybe it´s because I need to set XMP on but also set specific voltages?.

This is what Kingston (RAM) , Intel (CPU i9 12900K) and Asus (Mobo) websites say about DDR5 values:

Intel says here: Procesador Intel® Core™ i9-12900K that it supports DDR5 up to 4800

As I just turned ON XMP and it assigns a Profile (XMP I or XMP II) but I didn't touch any voltage... so... maybe that´s the reason?.

I took these screenshots but I don't know if I should also enter another section for more RAM voltages. Maybe this helps you to tell me if I need to put specific values there (considering my model is 6400 version).

Any help would be really appreciated, as right now I have this PC totally useless. I can boot with 1 memory stick in slot 1, but it also says it´s 4000 Freq instead of 4800 (I would like it to be 6000-6400, but I think DDR5 has issues with Alder Lake, so...).

Thanks!!

You shouldn't have to do anything but enable XMP the XMP profile. It will automatically set timings, freq and voltage.

Have you tried setting a lower frequency like 6200 instead?

Also are you on the newest BIOS or the one that shipped with it?

Hi, yes I tried with 4800 or 6000 and same result. No boot, just ram led in mobo.

latest bios version 2204.

maybe the mobo it’s defective.

Yes exactly. The thing is that I can boot into Windows using each one of the memory sticks but just when I put them in Slot 1.

And Windows says it´s at 4000 instead of 4800, so... really weird.

I sent the entire PC to RMA, so I hope they fix it soon.

Hi,
Using two sticks going from left to right you should be using slots 2 & 4
