I think my windows install got borked from installing my new gpu. Now on some startups the screen is all distorted and has a fuzzy red "snow" effect that you would see on a tv over the desktop. And now my icons arent showing up correctly on the desktop, I've attempted a system restore to no avail, My next guess is to reinstall windows 7 as im still running the rc and have a complete copy of professional 64bit. any idea what might of happened? This all started when i put the new card in. :banghead:

I had something similar happen once with one of my old setups -sometimes the screen would look like the red fuzz or the colors would shift and look like bad EGA. it was caused by a bad DVI cable. Maybe it got kinked or the connectors on the video card are bad... Have you tried a different cable to the monitor?

this is a hardware problem, most likely caused by a bad DVI/HDMI cable as majestic has said

Maybe a driver issue also.
Those 295's can be a pain to get to installed correctly some times.
Uninstall your display drivers and clean out old files.
Then reinstall new drivers.

as you wish.

tried the cable yet?

I dont think its the cable, as a restart fixes it most times. And the broken desktop icons dont have anything to do with a broken cable. Im gonna try cleaning out my drivers and reinstalling

broken icons

What card did you have previously? Is your system heavily overclocked? If so, try bumping up your CPU voltage and such just a tiny bit and see if that reduces or fixes the issue. When my Phenom II X4 was too low on voltage but didn't BSOD, after a period of time it would cause visual artifacts including parts of windows turning back, videos being unwatchable and memory corruption (Google Chrome crashing all the time as it stores everything in RAM.) Note that my issue wasn't a GPU issue, but rather the voltage of my CPU in relation to the underclock I had (3.2->2.8GHz to save power on a 24/7 system.)
