Hi All ,

First of all , my specs are :

-R7 7800x3d

-Ram 32 gb ddr5

- RXT 4070 TI Super

I play at 4k if that helps with power consumption details.

Well the thing is that I had a Seasonic Focus GX-750 which I bought on 2018, yesterday I suspended my machine and today it didn't power on, no mobo lights ,nothing. After testing with another PSU that I had ( Sentey 600w) , I saw that the mobo turned on its lights , which for me is a good sign that my PSU died.

So , now I'm looking for a new one , at my country (Im not from US) I have 3 valid options around the 200 usd mark :

  • Seasonic Vertex GX-750 (ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0)
  • Cooler Master GX III 850W Gold (ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0)
  • Seasonic Focus GX-750 (ATX 2.0)
Im having some troubles to choose between these PSU's, I like the FOCUS GX-750 but I read that the others are better because the ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0 compatibility .

What do you think ?

Thank you very much in advance"

I love my Vertex. I have a GX-1000.

Does your previous psu still have warranty? I had the impression seasonic gives usually 10 years warranty.

Really sad to see a psu to die after a few years. On the ohter hand my trash corsair rm750 was dead after 18 months.

I prefer Seasonic over Cooler Master in general, although any OEM can put out a duffer.
I believe the Focus and Vertex series have been consistently considered as good+

Seasonic.-

From what I've read, some of the latest Seasonic are subpar when compared to previous ones. So, the old Focus is part of the good ones. It is ATX 2.0 however, and I think you'd do better with ATX 3.0 for the RXT 4070 TI Super.

The Cooler Master one is ok, can squeeze an extra 100W watts which means it'll be less pushed to its limits by your system, but has a lousy fan. And yeah you're still within warranty.

I don't know about the Focus GX line, but my older Focus SSR-450FM blew after five and a half years. I replaced it with a Super Flower. The RMA wasn't worth the hassle and cost.

No problem.

I would take the Cooler Master any day over Shitsonic. But what about a Corsair Rmx ?

Sounds odd to me, care to share why?

Personally I have only good experience with Seasonic, but there are other good brands also. As for Cooler Master I have no experience, only in general I prefer electronic products from companies that are more specialized or at least ones that don't sell furniture.

@Garra
independent from psu choice, i would disable fast boot, as well as hibernation and standby on desktops, doesnt help anything as you dont run it on battery, your still pulling power.
ignoring you have less chances of messing up os/bricking nand drives from possible power outage.

Thank you very much for all the answers!

About the warranty , I only get a 1 year warranty max at most places where I live (Uruguay) despite being true that supposedly Seasonic PSU's have 10 years. I was checking a bit more and I found a new option around the same price :

-Antec SF850X Gold

From what I read this is a good option , built quality it top tier and is PCIe 5.1 and ATX 3.1 compatible

Since Im doing this mandatory replacement , Im more in favor to take the opportunity to buy an 850w , so ,from my options is either the Cooler master or the Antec , in third place I read many good things about the Seasonic Vertex.

Thank you!

The number "one" does not define a statistical universe. My Corsair PSU has a 7 year warranty, and the newer RMs have a 10-year warranty.

I would also pick Seasonic over Cooler Master any day.

However, may I offer another suggestion? Have you been looking at the FSP Hydro series? If they're available where you live, that is. They come in several flavours. I'm sure there's one that suits you as well.

But does the computer boot up fine with the 2nd PSU?

Just because the board's LEDs light up, that does not mean power is being properly distributed as necessary.

Check your motherboard manual to see what the motherboard lights actually mean.

You cannot conclusively determine your PSU status unless the computer boots and works fine with a 2nd, known good PSU.

Note too, some PSUs will shutdown and stop output if they detect a fault with a connected device. To reset, the PSU must be unplugged from the wall or the master power switch flipped to off for a few seconds. If a reset was not done, you may still have a good PSU.

And you need to verify your computer will boot and run fine with a second PSU before concluding this one is bad.

And if bad, contact Seasonic, not the retailer, about getting an RMA.

Since Im doing this mandatory replacement , Im more in favor to take the opportunity to buy an 850w
If you are toying with upgrading to more power hungry devices in the future, then sure, go for 850W. But note a good 750W supply will easily support your current components, without strain, just fine. I am just saying, especially with your market options, don't limit your options by dismissing potentially excellent 750W supplies.

It does not change the fact that I had for several months random shutdowns in idle. the Power consumption may be was around 80 - 100 Watts for a 750W rated PSU. The time wasted to find the error, to determine a better psu by reading the tests, purchase, to test with the new psu and to physically e-waste the CORSAIR PSU is not for free.
Warranty is hard to get here, I was lucky to get around 90% of the purchase price refunded with lots of discussions.

Did you wrote to seasonic about the warranty?

I didn't try to boot it because is an old Sentey PSU , I didn't want the possibility of burning any other component but at least I saw that the Asus mobo lights turns on using the Sentey while with the Seasonic it doesnt even turn any lights , is like death.

I will try about the reset of the PSU . The thing about Seasonic is that it doesn't have official support where I live , probably getting a replacement will take a few weeks or months , and I use my PC also for work , netherless I will contact them , maybe Im able to get something.

About the options that I have , I dont discard the 750w options , Im just wondering if the 850w options that I have are better than the best 750w option that I have (Seasonic Vertex GX-750 (ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0)) , I now also found an Antec SF850x gold , which sounds good really , I cannot find much reviews about it but before this Seasonic I had an Antec for years.
I would also pick Seasonic over Cooler Master any day.

Unfortunately , I do not have that series available at a good price.

I will , either way Im going to get a new one because I use my PC to work and cannot have it weeks without working .

All of the models proposed are good and suitable for your machine. You should prefer a newer model, though, and between the GX III and Vertex, pick whatever is cheaper or offers better warranty.

Be wary of the "Seasonic = god tier and unquestionably the better choice", it's the cult following like Noctua's and this doesn't translate to real life. Both Seasonic and CM make both excellent and terrible products you shouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole, but it's not the case with any of the options given, they are all midrangers. Of these three, I think the Vertex is a little better, but not by a significant amount over the GX III. Prefer ATX 3.0 support, so exclude the old model of the Focus.

Options beyond are: Corsair RMe and RMx, Super Flower Leadex Gold series, etc.

Antec is good.

I don't know the Seasonic Vertex line, but the Prime and Focus are both top notch. I wouldn't look further.

I have a Prime GX-750 as well. Its ok. Has a hard time with Ampere and a man sized AM4 CPU with tune. Runs fine with Ampere and AM4 X3D.

But.. supposedly a known issue.. its an older PSU. My Vertex is cock solid in my current system, even when over rated capacity of my Prime.

Love it..

Edit:

I never had a problem with the EVGA 750 that I had to buy with that Ampere.. kinda pissed me off because it literally feels like a piece of junk compared to my Prime.

I would take the Cooler Master any day over Shitsonic. But what about a Corsair Rmx ?

"Most Corsair PSUs are made by Seasonic"

Is this still true?

I discarded the Antec , thanks to Geminis for point me the fact that is a PSU SFX-L format , and after reading the specifications the cable are way to short for my current case.

Now I'm between having more spare watts or taking the best option quality wise from what I read at the internet :
  • Seasonic Vertex GX-750 (ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0) , Price 222 USD
  • Cooler Master GX III 850W Gold (ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0) , Price 190 USD
About upgrading in the future , I dont know , I just upgraded to this 4070 ti super and I upgraded to the 7800x3d about a year ago , so ,I guess if nothing weird happens , I will just stick to this setup for a few years.

I just wonder if there is that much of quality difference between these two PSU or grabbing any of the two is an excellent option.
