Hey all. I’ve just completed my first build with these components:
  • Motherboard: Asrock B450M Steel Legend
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 2600
  • CPU Cooler: Stock AMD one
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB, 2x8GB
  • GPU: Sapphire RX580 Nitro+ 4GB
  • PSU: EVGA 650GQ
  • Storage: WD Black SN750 500GB M.2
  • Case: NZXT H400i
I plugged it into an outlet and as soon as I do that all the RGBs on the Motherboard and RAM flashing a load of colours on and off (photo attached below, apologies I should’ve taken it with the side panel off). The power button LED on the case is also flashing in sync with everything else. I have no idea why this is happening and the system won’t turn on. Please help. Thanks.

The problem is this occurs without turning the case power switch on. As soon as I plug it into the outlet, the rgb on the motherboard and RAM start flashing, as well as the power button light. Surely this is not an RGB effect if it affects other components too.

Read the manual for the motherboard? Try only hooking up the motherboard, memory(1 stick), CPU and Cooler, and a hard drive. Have you tried flipped the ON button plug where it plugs into the motherboard?

Pull the mobo out and bench run minimum essential equipment.

Thanks so much guys. I reconnected the cables and RAM to make sure they weren’t loose or anything and it still didn’t work. So then I test benched it all outside the case and it worked. Then I tried it in the case with the essential connections in and it works now. No idea what caused the flashing RGBs earlier but I have a feeling I screwed in the mobo into the standoffs too tightly and maybe something got short-circuited. Although the mobo works and if that was the case I’d assume it would have gotten fried but idk.

Anyways I’ll add the rest of the cables at a later time and if I run into any problems will post again

You had a grounding problem. Always check the case motherboard tray stand offs and use only what matches the mounting points on the motherboard, ensure io shield tabs are not sticking into your io ports on back of motherboard, ensure motherboard is squared up to the case and mounting points are squared up with stand offs.

Mounting screws only need to be finger tight, basically with light grip using screw driver till screw stops. No need to torque them down

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Something wasnt grounded properly when it was in the case initially I'd guess. Glad it works!
