hello forum,
must ask a question,
i have a AMD™ Sapphire™ Radeon RX 7900XTX and it has a incredibly hot back plate.
my other cards where water cooled and it back plate was never warm to touch, this one is burning my fingers hot, is that normal please?
thinking that maybe having an AIB card might not matter as its just stupidly hot.

Is it the Stock, Pulse or Nitro Card?

Nitro.
it had a performance drop session last night, but the maps i was playing was unfinished and poorly optimized.
if it happens again, ill let you all know.

I think the issue might be the Zero fan profile. You might want to check AMD software or check HWinfo64 to see your temps. Unfortunately AMD only shows the Core and Hot spot temp but HWinfo64 has way more sensors.

ok, ill keep an eye on the temperatures more.
i got a water block coming tomorrow, but do i want to fit it yet or wait?

tested with furmark, memory junction temp 88c and holds the temp at 80c for everything else.

hello forum,
just been doing some temperature testing using Furmark™ on the AMD™ 7900XTX.
i ran some benchmarks for kicks.
i got a clock of about 1950mhz while doing the 4k benchmark and scored 10,000ish and then repeated 9750 point a few times.
i thought , that's odd clock speed,
so i forced it to between 2500mhz and the 2680mhz using AMD™ Adrenaline and tested again and it spat out 6000ish points.
so, is it just Furmark is crazy please?
best regards,

Check your GPU hotspot temps and power usage, you might be thermal throttling. Preferably test in some benchmarks like Superposition or Heaven

Perhaps the backplate functions as a heatspreader and not just a spine/decoration/dustcover?

My block is in processing and should come by Thursday. From what I have seen all the water chamber will cover the entire card area including the VRMs. That should make the temps more stable so I would install right away. I don't expect to go over 75 C at any part of the card once we go water. I have a 420 Rad to exchange the heat as well. What size are you using?

i had a AMD™ FX8350
so, i ended up with a XSPC™ Raystorm kit with two EX360 rads externally mounted, two XSPC™ d5 pumps in to one and put Noctua™ PFC 3000rpm fans in pull on them.
the AMD™ RX Vega 56's i had never got above 49c and the AMD™ R7 3800XT maxed about 65c.

That can't possibly be true, these things heat up a lot and the back plate will absolutely be hot to the touch.

With that setup once you add the GPU to that loop you will be happy. Those temps should go away. These cards do benefit greatly from Watercooling from what I have seen. Do me favour and post your next thread in the 7000 Owners club. That way people will be seeing what watercooling benefits and it might lead to some good discussions. I have one going right now to verify if the Pulse can accept the block for the Nitro from Alphacool.

thank you, never had a card back plate this hot or had this kind of power draw.
we will see what the temp drops down to after water cooling.

that's the block i am getting.
the Bykski™ blocks i had seems fine, shame that they haven't released any yet for these cards.

@MrPerforations the backplate is basically an exclusive heatsink for the GDDR6, with pretty efficient looking thermal pads. The reference XT and XTX both have a burn warning icon on their backplates, so the Nitro doesn't seem too ridiculous.

Backplate temperature probably also depends on how much case airflow you have flowing over it. If all your airflow is feeding the GPU directly, stands to reason that the backplate and whatever is behind the GPU will be warm.

At a glance it looks like memory just does run warm on these cards. These are new 20Gbps products, not the 16Gbps GDDR6 on last gen cards.

So long as all temps look good, the backplate being hot means it's doing it's job.
