Hi,

I recently started getting VPU Recover errors when playing games.

It all started when I tried to play Crysis with some extreme config that was probably too much for my PC.

I said OK, let's remove the driver and reinstall, it didn't work. After i got frustrated I formatted my PC and I still got the message.

I tried turning ATI Overdrive off and it worked, but the problem is I want to turn it on so I can get better results from my graphics card playing games, and it wasn't like that before, I used overdrive many times before and this message didn't appear until that damn Crysis config....

What should I do? is the card damaged?

my pc specs are:

Processor: Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9450 2.66GHZ
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
Memory: GEIL 4GB DDR2 800MHZ CL4
Hard Disk: WD 250GB 16MB SATA2
Video Card: GIGABYTE RADEON HD4850 512MB DDR3

Thanks

Get better cooling for your GPU and ramsinks and mosfets. If your going to overclock the 4850, the stock cooling is über doody.

I overclocked before, and the GPU temp is 40C right now and about 65 when playing games, that's not that hot.

I just increased the fan speed..

it's weird.. it's in ANY CLOCKS. I just turn the overdrive on and it tells me the error... even if it's in the original clocks =\

Well, I would say leave the card stock, OR...use AMDGpuClockTool instead of Overdrive.

I believe you can disable VPU recover in CCC's advanced settings. However, why would you? IT does tend to save you from multiple shutdowns/reboots and other issues. THe problem I get with my video card is heat. That would be the main problem for your VPU recover to kick in. Id just try aftermarket cooling, no ocing, or more system cooling in general. Those cards like to heat up pretty fast from their reviews out there. Also, if you put crysis settings on low and it still does it, it could be that the Crysis settings exposed a problem with your card. Inadequate cooling seems to be the culprit here.

If you disable VPU recover, the gpu will do just that. Fail then not recover, leading to having to do a reboot. It's best left on.

Thought I'd simply resurrect this thread instead of making a new one.

2 days ago, I bought a 4850 toxic.
I had 1 vpu recover yesterday, but today I'm getting about 10 an hour.:banghead:
This is happening while running 2D apps, such as browsing the net, etc. On WOW it simply went to a black screen within 5 min.

The first night I ran COD4 for about 5 hours, no issues.

Temps are not an issue, as this card is running an aftermarket cooler, and temps are sitting at 47 Deg C.

All clocks on my machine are now stock, and I'm running Cat 8.9

So, any sage advice folks?:twitch:
