Ptm7950 is a phase changing coolingpad/paste that turn liquid above 45C. It is used in industrial settings, on ledbulbs, but has recently become popular in notebooks and gpus. The Lenovo legion uses it aswell as Nvidia 4090 FE and perhaps other FE models aswell. It is a lot more expensive than most pastes and harder to apply, but longevity is supposedly many years. It also needs a many hours to perform at its best due to the melting process. I got a 40x80mm kit for 13usd on ebay.

My 4070 die is 15x20mm so I can do several applications with this. I put it in the freezer for 10mins, used a scissor to cut after measuring.
1000003028.jpg

Application was somewhat tricky as it has a thin plastic film on both sides. Succeded after a few minutes.

I had reapplied Arctic MX-6 3 times after I got pump out the 2 first after using max mounting pressure. The stock temps where 59C core 83C hotspot. The last atempt with MX-6 was much better at 57-71C.

Then came ptm7950
1000003035.jpg

Vs stock the result is amazing. 5C lower core, 11.5C delta vs 24C. Also a nice improvement
from MX-6 with 3C lower core and 5.5C lower delta :) The temps started of worse at 55C and 67C delta, but got better after a few hours.

Overall very satisfied :)

Before you buy: This is not a good solution for everything. On direct die it performs best. On IHS it may not perform as good due to lower heat on parts of the IHS that may not reach the necessary 45C+. On goodwatercooling it will probably perform bad if temps never pass 45C. It is not easy to apply, but cooling it down before use helps a lot :)

Sweet resaults! I plan on buying PTM7950 for my 4070 Ti TUF I can find it cheap at LTTstore.com 60mm x 60mm sheet for $15 I repasted my card with MX-6 3 times and the paste pumped out super fast in about 2-3 days and hotspot started to rise gradually can't wait to get this stuff next week.

It performs well on IHS too, if the die is 80 Celsius the IHS should be more than 45C in every area

It could work well on CPU's but it's not ideal as thermal paste doesn't pump out as bad on a IHS like it does on direct die this is why laptop manufacturers and GPU manufaturers use this stuff adding it on a desktop CPU would be way more expensive as well due to the size of the CPU I would only use PTM7950 on direct die honestly less constly as well.

I agree, it is not ideal for IHS from financial perspective, but if you have spare you can use it on IHS too. I use PTM for notebooks and GPU's, but I dont have PC.
Also if you ever delid, the PTM is ideal for replacing the thermal interfaces without shortcircuit risk.

I get same redults as MX6 on IHS. It doesnt perform bad, it is about even with MX6 which is quite good. Application and price however is worse vs MX6.

It is superb for gpus and notebooks, also direct die cpus with aircooling. Almost liquid metal performance, but none of the drawbacks like conductivity, reaction with cooler and much better longevity :) Nvidia uses it on 4090 FE, that is a clear sign of how good it is It's about the same as regualer paste on ihs. On very good watercooling it may perform worse than paste, but it's like 42C vs 38C.

Yeah, it is not worth it for IHS, you can find normal Deepcool paste even cheaper than MX6 with the same performance. Deepcool Z5,Z9,Z10 (avoid Z3) is pretty damn good. For me the sheet version of the PTM is painfully hard to apply, even after freezing it it's difficult peel off properly. I have already ordered the SP paste version of PTM to give a try next time, theoretically the application is like regular paste, except that you have to dry out the solvent after application, but that can be done with a regular hair dryer. I rather do the waiting than the freezer + razor method with surgical precision.

Nice results! :toast: I'll probably get some for 4070 Ti and 6900HS/6700S.

For IHS CPU I think Kryosheet might be the better premium choice between the two.

I just got my PTM7950 today and applied it to my 4070 Ti it was rather simple to apply and I'm seeing very consistant temps so far between core and hotspot as well as 3C lower than freshly applied MX-6 I'm curious how it'll perform in a week since that's when MX-6 pumped out super bad for me.

I've had a few good experiences with PTM7950 now. 7950GT shaved off a few degrees immediately, and multiple GT 730's refurbished for extreme longevity. I did notice with those the temps improved after a few hours of use too.

What's a bonus is it's dirt cheap for how much you get IMO, I see myself using this with most of my hardware from now on, unless similar alternatives perform even better, like Thermal Grizzly's Kryosheet.

I think I did a good job and yeah so much better than regular pastes for sure at the moment if it stays consistant I'll use this stuff instead of paste indefinitely.

Actually that's 11.5 C vs 14 C delta.

I will try this at some point. It made a massive difference for the laptop (in sig), and there's plenty left of the sheet I bought.
