How good are inland SSDs?

My plan is to run Windows on one, but keep programs on a hard drive so if things do go south with the SSD, recovery should not be too painful.

for free? those inland professional drives are worth the money.
for $5 and with their notorious phison controller (S11) that go belly up within two years, I'd rather have a cup of coffee and a donut.

just don't store anything important or that isn't backup up on it

backups are always a necessity - otherwise how are you going to unfuck the entire folder you didn't want deleted? or that ransomware attack?

if you access it monthly, then it needs to be backed-up regularly (preferably offline)

I had good luck with Inland Pros (fairly fast TLC drives for QLC drive costs from major brands)

As with all hardware, you get what you pay for. If something is cheap (especially right now) it's cheap for a reason.

I have that same SSD in a HTPC. It is running Win10 & there's also a spinner with media files in the system too. It's been working great for me since some time last year.

the brand inland and their product lines don't mean anything. microcenter will buy whatever is the cheapest thing available from any chinese or korean manufacturer and slap their name on in.

you can have identical looking products that are DRAM-less with junk tier NAND, or with quality NAND and DRAM. you can't know what you got unless you know when it was manufactured or if you just open it to look inside.

Seems mine is a MyDigitalssd unit and has a Phison controller.

I have the Pro units as opposed to Platinum.

Personally I'd use a drive for such a neverheard manufacturer for anything else but anything important. On the other hand, I don't buy drives from manufacturers which are noticeable more expensive (yeah, I see you Samsung).

Say what you will about Samsung, I've owned several Samsung SSDs and they've been dependable; rock solid even. OK, they cost a little more but I can depend upon them to not just up and die on me.

I've only had experience with an 860 EVO, 970 EVO, and a 980 (non-Pro). The 980 is my boot drive, the 970 EVO is my game drive, and the 860 is in my system but it's basically just sitting there not being used.

I don't know how you expect me to say "ssd died after two minutes" other than some adult language expressing it.

My little (256GB) inland SATA SSD seems to be chugging along quite nicely so far, although I have relegated it to my test machine for now.

I really appreciate all the feedback, even if it is not what I want to hear.

Hi,
I'd exclude sammy 870 series these are junk.
I've read (right here on TPU) about the 870 Evo series being infamously unreliable but the 870 QVO series doesn't seem to have that rep, only a rep for bad performance.

Anything QLC-NAND is going to be trash, performance-wise. QLC is a solution looking for a problem.

I have nothing bad to say about Samsung (good ol' 840 Pro 256GB still kickin' as my OS drive), but my point was exactly that they have some brand premium.
