How to make GPU BIOS accessible?

I think it would be useful to be able to set power limits (or other things) directly in the GPU BIOS. For example, if somebedy for whatever reason does not want to use the whole power envelope of the card, he should be able to enter the BIOS and lower the power limit.

Why is not the BIOS of the graphic card accessible and configurable?

Are there any tools available to enter the GPU BIOS and change some settings?

The cards may have some multi position switch on them to tweak the power limit, with for example 0, -10, -20, -30% selection.

Well you can adjust all the settings that can be changed in software. The limits for them are hardcoded into the vbios.

So there isn’t really a benefit from changing the settings in the vbios. Especially considering MSI afterburner has an option to apply your settings at boot. It would only lead to even more expensive GPUs and possibly more ways of bricking it.

You can flash the bios if you really want to change something an overclocking programm can’t do.

MSI afterburner basically does the same job. Why bother to risk to brick the card?

For me the order of preference is:

1) a switch on the card, which tells GPU BIOS what limit to use
2) changing limit in the GPU BIOS
3) an additional software from the card manufacturer
4) an additional software from different party

All this additional software may come with bloatware and cause other problems. When I want to change one number in GPU BIOS, it is silly to having to use some bloated additional program.

Quite simply, if GPU manufacturers allow direct Bios access with adjustments they would risk bucket loads of RMA's for failed cards ............. although it's a nice idea.
