Huawei Ascend 910B Accelerators Power Cloud Infrastructure for DeepSeek R1 Inference

When High-Flyer, the hedge fund behind DeepSeek, debuted its flagship model, DeepSeek R1, the tech world went downward. No one expected Chinese AI companies can produce high-quality AI model that rivals the best from OpenAI and Anthropic. While there are rumors that DeepSeek has access to 50,000 NVIDIA "Hopper" GPUs, including H100, H800, and H20, it seems like Huawei is ready to power Chinese AI infrastructure with its AI accelerators. According to the South China Morning Post, Chinese cloud providers like SiliconFlow.cn are offering DeepSeek AI models for inference on Huawei Ascend 910B accelerators. For the price of only one Yuan for one million input tokens, and four Yuan for one million output tokens, this economic model of AI hosting is fundamentally undercutting competition like US-based cloud providers that offer DeepSeek R1 for $7 per million tokens.

Not only is running on the Huawei Ascend 910B cheaper for cloud providers, but we also reported that it is cheaper for DeepSeek itself, which serves its chat app on the Huawei Ascend 910C. Using domestic accelerators lowers the total cost of ownership, with savings passed down to users. If Western clients prefer AI inference to be served by Western companies, they will have to pay a heftier price tag, often backed by the high prices of GPUs like NVIDIA H100, B100, and AMD Instinct MI300X.

I can still buy Huawei laptops on my local Amazon, but not on Amazon.com. Buying new Huawei 5G equipment was banned on 31 December 2020, so perhaps it's not surprising the company has moved into AI GPUs.

Stupidity and arrogance at highest level. Well, maybe it must be mentioned that it is exactly the Chinese who work hard at the American companies, so that it looks like they thrive. They thrive because of the Chinese. But stupid racism.

After this event, we can expect the US government to double down to cover the failure of the latest doubling down in the series. To untrained eyes like mine, it looks like doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. But since I was told that governments don't do dumb things, they must have a well oiled plan they intend to do something with.

Very few are racist against the Chinese.
Everyone is terrified of the government and what they will do with the AI tech.

Taiwan is exactly the same ethnicity and race of people and have no such issues. They also don’t have a government that disappears people. Taiwan also happens to be the leader in semiconductors and no one seems to care, with the exception that they are 100 miles off the coast of China. Has nothing to do with race.

With people and news that are that much propagandized, the "Deep Research with Agentic Capabilities" of the latest OpenAI model is not off to a good start imho.

Every information processing apparatus, including brains and I expect any AI model, follow the rule of 'Garbage In, Garbage Out".

Indeed. It's a question of which garbage you prefer. The Chinese state media propaganda, or Western garbage of all varieties.
