i never had a cpu before where the package temps were hotter than or the same as core temps..
but the 2500k seems to be at or around the same temps as the cores..
ther is some variation to it.. but in generall the package temp is right about the same temperature as my hottest core..
if im stress testiong it will usually be a little bit lower than the hottest core temp but will generally end up at about the same.
and at idle it is usually about the same temps as my core temps.. The picture i took has it a bit hotter but the core temps drop[ed just as i hit prt screen.

is this normal for a 2500k or not? (ignore cpu fan speed running pump of a molex)

and here is a shot of aida 64 osd whilst running ibt

that only shows the core temps not the package temps

Hmmm I trust realtemp more than the others but it does seem odd. AIDA shows my package to be the same temp as my core.

all the apps report the core temps the same (near enough) so thats not an issue.. i believe the core temps are close enough to correct for me to use them for my fan speeds and oc ability and so on..
but i just dont get why cpu package is the same temp as my core..
historically package temps have always been 20 or so c lower than core temps. sometimes 30c lower. which is why i never used them and just went from the core temps.
but is the 2500k supposed to have the same temps for package as the core or not?
because if its not then it could cause throttling earlier than it should happen because the cpu temp is reported as being 20c hotter than it should be.
or is it really supposed to be the same as a core temp deliberatly for oc protection now intel offer oc insurance.

Package temps have been like that on CPU's I've dealt with for years now. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're stable and not overheating, do what you do with it and enjoy!

hmm ok.. never noticed that before. always knew them to be a lot lower than core temps which is why i have always watched the core temps rather than the cpu tempi guess simply not paying attention to the cpu temps would mean i didnt notice it though.

package temp is tjmax, the temp the cpu uses to work out when to throttle.

it is the only cpu temp that matters, realtemp is a useless app these days.

You're making something out of nothing IMHO. Pay attention to core temps like you have, OC, use it, play games, browse the web, move on. What you knew at one point doesn't always translate into what you know in the future in this hardware arena. Sensors and standards are changing all the time. As-long-as you're within what the specs are for the cores I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

not making a thing about it, just never knew it to be like that i wasnt sure if mine was being different and had a faulty sensor or similar, or if they are all like that these days.
