i7-13700HX not overclocking

Hello, I own an HP Omen 16 laptop. When I attempt overclocking, it gives me an error saying to visit K or X series processors. I am confused because I have a 13700HX. HX processors are unlocked according to Intel, however, in Throttlestop or Intel XTU, The options are not available. Please help

Do you see the yellow lock icon in the Turbo Overclocking section?

Unlimited means that you really do have an unlocked CPU. Unfortunately, HP decided to lock out this feature. If overclocking and CPU voltage control are important to you, return your HP laptop and get something else from a different manufacturer. Many similar Lenovo Legion laptops have excellent cooling and are fully unlocked. That makes a big difference when trying to get maximum performance out of an Intel mobile HX CPU.

I understand, however, I am able to undervolt my CPU, however I am not able to change the clock speed. Why is this?

I think HP may have set this kind of limit for reasons like heat or battery life.

It's not permanently locked, there's a keyboard dance that needs to be performed while on that screen that unlocks the option brings up a prompt to type in a passkey to unlock the feature usu have to call hp for it. My speculation is that it's their way of flagging serials that may turn into a warranty claim.

Googling at bit brings up a couple posts that say hit "Fn+Tab three times" while on that screen.

Please help me, as I am a beginner to all of this (high schooler passionate for tech!)
I tried googling but I could not find any keyboard shortcut, however I think that if I can undervolt it I should be able to overclock...

That confirms that CPU voltage control is locked. The yellow lock icon confirms that CPU turbo multiplier adjustments are also locked.

The FIVR monitoring table shows that there is a CPU undervolt of -0.0850 V being applied to the CPU core.

That is correct but you can only make voltage changes while you are in the BIOS. Before you boot up into Windows, the BIOS sets the lock bit so no further adjustments can be made while you are in Windows. The lock bit prevents ThrottleStop, Intel XTU or any other software from making any further changes. Voltage changes can only be made while you are in the BIOS.

Most Intel CPUs need the undervolt to be applied to both the CPU Core and the CPU P Cache. The -85 mV undervolt that the BIOS has applied only to the CPU Core may not work correctly or may not work at all.

It is very typical for companies like HP to lock their laptops. If being able to overclock and undervolt while in Windows is important to you then you will need to buy a different laptop from a different manufacturer. Your HP laptop does not have these features. HP has decided that all of the features of your unlocked HX processor cannot be fully used. The Lenovo Legion laptops usually have a feature in the BIOS so laptops with HX processors can be easily unlocked and fully used.

Thank you for your long and detailed response. One mistake I made is not mentioning that I have used the inbuilt software (HP Omen hub) to undervolt my CPU. If this is the case, then I should be able to use another 3rd party software to make more changes as the bit is not set, am I correct? Sorry If I am mistaken, I am a high schooler trying to learn more! Also, The laptop is unfortunately far too past the return date, and I do not want to change it for other personal reasons.

Also, is this video legit, and if so, is it dangerous?

If Omen Hub works then keep using that. Either that program or the BIOS is locking the CPU voltage control register. You cannot use ThrottleStop or Intel XTU to control the turbo ratios or the voltage when that register is locked.

There is no way for anyone to know. If you feel lucky, give it a try. If something goes wrong you can brick your laptop so it will not start. This does not happen too often but it can happen so be prepared for that.

Hey, I have same specs like you, how did you managed to undervolt? I honestly tried everything and couldnt find a working tutorial. My CPU is overheating like crazy and like you mentioned in this post, undervolt/overclock is locked. Hopefully you're still logged here and you will see my message.
