Hello everyone,
I am currently using an MSI GL63 8RD laptop and it seems to be throttling.
Here are my specs:
- i7-8750H
- GTX 1050 Ti

I tried out Far Cry 5 and my laptop seems to be crashing a lot after a few minutes of playing the game. I've tried monitoring my laptop while playing using RivaTuner and it shows that I have a voltage limit, and my GPU temperature is constantly at around 89 degrees.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks in advance!!

When was the last time you opened up your laptop to clean it out? Have you ever replaced the thermal paste?

An 8750H can run all cores at 3900 MHz. You are losing a lot of CPU performance. Disable Turbo has your CPU running at only 2200 MHz. Instead of Disable Turbo, I would adjust the turbo ratios in the FIVR window somewhere between 22 and 39. This will allow the CPU to use some turbo boost without having to completely disable it. If cooling is the problem, then you need to fix that issue.

If you check the Nvidia GPU box in the Options window then your GPU temps and GPU MHz will be included in the ThrottleStop log file.

In the FIVR window, set the Intel GPU offset voltage to +0.0000. When playing a game you are not using the Intel GPU so there is no point in undervolting this. It can cause instability without reducing heat or power consumption.

Your ThrottleStop settings look OK. Seems like an overheating GPU problem so time for some spring cleaning.

Hi unclewebb,
Thank you so much for the reply. It has been quite a while since I replaced the thermal paste. I was actually going to replace it soon.

I've changed my FIVR settings according to your recommendations, but I'm not sure whether I did it right.

I've also tested the new settings playing Far Cry 5, it was okay at the start, but it still crashed.

Not sure why but my CPU is still running at 2200 MHz and the power is still around 15-18.

Do you still have Disable Turbo checked on the main ThrottleStop screen? Clear that box.

The end of your log file shows BD PROCHOT throttling down to 800 MHz. If you want to fix that type of throttling, clear the BD PROCHOT box on the main screen of ThrottleStop.

but it still crashed.
Did you clean out your laptop and replace the thermal paste? Your log file shows your GPU gets hotter and hotter and is probably what inevitably causes your laptop to crash. It is hard to play games on a laptop with bad cooling.

Hi unclewebb, thanks for the response.

I just unchecked my Disable Turbo and BD PROCHOT on the main screen and it doesn't seem to crash my laptop while playing. I've tested with disable turbo off and now it just seems like it's overheating only but no crashes so far.

I haven't gotten the time to clean my laptop and change the paste but I'll get it done soon.
