Sometime around 2011-12 I bought a used Yamaha A/V receiver off Craigslist for $100 and the seller threw this Infinity speaker system in for free since he no longer had any use for it. I already had plenty of speakers but decided to try replacing the Logitech speakers in a Z5500 system with them. The sub went into storage since it wasn't needed or compatible with the Z5500. The difference was incredible and a huge upgrade in audio quality combined with an Asus Xonar D2X audio card. Also, there hasn't been a single issue even with constant use in all these years. I used 14 gauge wire to connect them.
I foolishly blew up another Z5500 rather quickly trying to drive a pair of Klipsch KG 2.2's in stereo. Fortunately I sold the control unit on Ebay for more than I paid for that entire Z5500 system. I looked on Ebay today and there are some of the same Infinity speakers on there minus the sub but I think they're overpriced and most are missing the mounting plates (not needed but they look far better with them). If you can find any cheap ($25-$75) and they're in good condition it's a no-brainer to get them. Time has proven they're a perfect combination with a Z5500. I was very surprised to find out the original cost of that Infinity system, especially since I got it for free. Around $500+ 24 years ago. Infinity HTS-10 Home theater speaker system at Crutchfield
I eventually ended up using the sub along with a pair of Polk Monitor 40's I bought when Newegg was selling them for $100 a pair including free shipping. A $119 Dayton tube amp from Parts Express drives the Polks and sounds fantastic in one of my workstations. It also has a RCA sub out port. I swapped the junk Chinese tubes in the Dayton amp for a pair of NOS mid-60's vintage Amperex E80CF's from Holland that really woke the thing up.
