installing linux mint with some cinnamon on ssd

downloaded the iso. so now what? do I mount the iso on a usb stick with rufus , then boot from the stick and install on the ssd?

is it the same as installing windows?

yes, rufus is OK.
But, from my experience, Linux bootable isos are better created with YUMI exFAT ▷ Multiboot USB Bootable Media Creation Tool (yumiusb.com)
don't care that it's a multiboot installer, it could be perfectly used for 1 OS installer too.
There is a convinient list of what you want to put onto usb with choice from common OS (windows & linux distros) or tools like for partition management etc.
