If i deselect components and install this as an upgrade over an existing driver would those components on the old driver still be installed or does this remove them?

It removes them. The NVIDIA installer will automatically remove the previous driver completely, before installing the new one.

if you have nvidia when installing new drivers to be extra sure (that's what I always do), you can tick "perform a clean install" in the main window

I asked the question as I wanted to preserve my settings, so the answer was the ideal one, although sadly nvidia driver updates still have a habit of overwriting profiles. :(

Go to C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\Drs then copy "nvdrsdb0.bin" and "nvdrsdb1.bin" to your desktop. Do your clean install and then put them back there. They contain almost all of your settings. (Like 99% of it)

In the past I added NvContainer (from Driver Slimmer) and the new basic installation with NVCleanstall didn't remove it until I selected "perform a clean install".

The installation seems to preserve graphic settings, unless you select the clean option.
Sadly, HD audio settings are always lost, instead.

I the second maybe just a backup? The files are identical in size.
