You absolutely should have the thermal pad in-between the drive and the heatsink. Not only will it help with heat transfer, but you really do not want bare slabs of metal pressed up against your sensitive electronics.

The pad should be in there, as mentioned above. Assuming you have proper air flow also, this will probably lower the temps by 3-6 degrees, which will put you well into the safe range.

However, my 850x 4TB normally hovers around 54-58c, but I thrash it with data/read/write intensive apps all day long, so that's "normal" for me, and that's stuffed inside a mini-me box too :D

The thermalpad should absolutely be installed. Now it's practically isolated without any proper way to transfer heat from itself to the heatsink.

Note: hot controller bad, warm nand good. Put a thermal pad between your NVMe and heatsink and a bit of airflow on your heatsink and you will be fine.

For an SSD that slow, i don't think it's good. You probably have very poor airflow in your case

I have a S70 Blade that easily doubles the speed of yours and i never saw it beyond 55°C on heavy data transfers

It could be that warm if the graphics card is near or on top of the slot. Not too hot to worry about quite yet.

Sorry but what exactly do you refer to "square below"?

Do you mean the thermal pads?

Dont think it matters, when you used the heatsink from the motherboad, as an image you've shown earlier, should have thermal pads.
If even with that you're still having temps like this, you probably have very poor airflow.

Either that your SSD naturally heats up quite a bunch, but still not considered dangerous

Isn't that square just for keeping it in place? At least on my Crosshair VII Hero, that isn't a thermalpad but make sure that the drive doesn't wobble around.

i would say it is very hot time in here ( brazil )

it is about 40 degrees

my ryzen (5700x3d) used to perform 60 to 65 degrees and now it is hitting 74 degrees due to high temperature time

hmm should be but i properly screwed it without the pad already

The worst temps i've ever had in BR was no more than 36°C ambient, and that was when i saw the "high" temps on my SSD lol

40°C ambient is pretty wild, can't imagine inside the PC case but that will make it worse with bad airflow. If you could attach a picture of your case with fan configuration, that would be nice

the upper fan is the middle one and the ssd is above the gpu

i have 2 fans intake and one exhaust at the back

the case fan is cooler master sickleflow

tbh it runs about 57 to 60 , not constantly at 60

the case is meshed ( aigo dxr70)

i think 60 degrees is also the absolute max it peaked under these extreme conditions

Well yeah i don't think it's anything to be aware of, these temps should be fine under the melting ambient temps you're having. That should probably explain why the inside of your case is more like a airfryer lmao

I wouldn't worry about that at all

I mean, higher temps aren't exactly doing any favors here.
I run a single g3x4 without a heatsink. Just light airflow and it looks like this:
1730504440978.png

If I were to pick up a water block for it those temps would all shoot right under 30℃.
Performance would be steady too. This one is on its way out so I'm not exactly worried.
When it finally starts to puke I'll have something ready. Dual g4x4, passive blocks, x1 adapter for server.

I mean, higher temps aren't exactly doing any favors here.
I run a single g3x4 without a heatsink. Just light airflow and it looks like this:

If I were to pick up a water block for it those temps would all shoot right under 30℃.
Performance would be steady too. This one is on its way out so I'm not exactly worried.
When it finally starts to puke I'll have something ready. Dual g4x4, passive blocks, x1 adapter for server.
i don´t know if there is something wrong on my end then

it peaked 64 degrees right now , maybe something is wrong really
