I plan on getting an Asus Strix RTX 3090 video card in about 5 months I just wonder if my corsair ax1200i power supply will handle it?

I think so. Its a beefy Power supply.

If your worried run three separate 8 pin power lead because of "Dirty Power".

W1zzards review of the RTX 3090 Strix recommended an 800w.

The PSU is actually pretty idiot-proof. The 1200i also had OCP points IIRC before you could mess up your house wiring (had one) and you can read how much power you pull from the software rather accurately too. JGuru tested it and approved. Really a pointless topic question.

It won’t even turn the fan on, for a typical gaming session... Usually they turn fan on when sustained(avg) 50% load is required by PC components.

I really like these digital RM/HX/AX(i) Corsair PSUs with all the monitoring capabilities with Corsair software or even better, HWiNFO.

The weight of the PSU indeed doesn't actually show its quality, but there's another thing. Some cases like my P3, where the PSU hangs off the GPU riser plate... a heavier PSU brings down the mechanism and bends it a bit.

I was linking it to another point, in case somebody might chime in mentioning weight reflecting quality.

Besides, there are cases weight gives you a more quality impression. I had a Focus 650W and have a Strix 550, they're both based on the same platform but the latter is heavier due to the heatsinks.

Old school cheap PSUs threw in metal blocks inside the unit to fool you, but it's not always that way.

I converted the weight to Kilograms & it turns out to be around 36.2 Kilograms.

I have Aoyue BGA9000A & that comes in at 50 Kilograms. It took two strong men around 15 mins to get it into where I live.
Lifting this on your own has the potential to do permanent damage to your back, not forgetting if you drop it, it will break bones.

Getting back to that Power Supply. If you have a short to ground in motherboard, GFX card PCB, that Power Supply will find it, but don't expect them to ever work again as I'm expecting burnt-out traces or even fire.

And what PSU was that old one? If a PSU is high quality it can hold loads for many years. Especially when it was never loaded past 50%.
